H-Power is a UK-based, AIM-listed clean energy company developing zero-emissions hydrogen power systems. Using ammonia to produce low-carbon hydrogen at the point of need, and fuel cells to convert it into reliable, off-grid power, H-Power offers a scalable, practical alternative to fossil fuels, serving construction, infrastructure, transport and power generation sectors. Behind the technology is a team driven by a shared purpose: to accelerate the shift away from fossil fuels.

The Role

H-Power is seeking a Commercial Engineering Manager to play a pivotal role in the commercialisation and deployment of its ammonia cracking and hydrogen power generation technologies. You will act as the technical and commercial bridge between customers, engineering teams and commercial stakeholders. Working closely with business development, engineering, deployment, legal and marketing teams, you will take ownership of customer engagement activities following initial introductions, helping to shape solutions, develop proposals and secure new business opportunities. This is a highly visible role combining engineering, customer engagement, bid management and commercial strategy, offering the opportunity to help bring innovative hydrogen technologies to market across the UK and Europe.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary technical-commercial contact throughout the sales process.
  • Engage with customers to understand operational challenges and identify suitable H-Power solutions.
  • Translate customer requirements into technically robust and commercially viable proposals.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to define system configurations, scope of supply and technical solutions.
  • Support customer meetings, technical workshops, site visits and product demonstrations.
  • Develop technical and commercial proposals, tender submissions and supporting documentation.
  • Manage technical queries throughout bid and due diligence processes.
  • Build compelling business cases focused on decarbonisation, energy efficiency and total cost of ownership.
  • Support contract negotiations alongside commercial and legal teams.
  • Represent H-Power at industry conferences, exhibitions and customer events.
  • Facilitate project handover from commercial stages into engineering and delivery teams.

Essential Requirements

  • Degree qualified in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Significant experience within technical sales, commercial engineering, proposals, applications engineering or business development roles.
  • Experience selling or supporting complex industrial, process plant, energy or infrastructure projects.
  • Strong understanding of engineering principles, thermodynamics, process systems and gas handling technologies.
  • Experience developing technical proposals, bids, tenders or FEED-stage project solutions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Comfortable engaging directly with customers, EPC contractors, consultants and industrial end users.
  • Willingness to travel regularly across the UK and Europe.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience within hydrogen, ammonia, industrial gases, fuel cells, power generation or industrial decarbonisation technologies.
  • Background working with EPC contractors, engineering consultancies or process engineering organisations.
  • Familiarity with industrial codes, standards and safety requirements.
  • Experience developing commercial business cases including payback analysis, NPV and ROI assessments.
  • Understanding of industrial energy users including water, infrastructure, ports, manufacturing, construction or power generation sectors.
