Role: Trainer & Assessor Rolling Stock
Salary banding: £60-64k DOE
Location: London North Pole Depot and London Bounds Green Depot
Team/Structure: The role forms part of a central team; travel and staying away from home may be required on an as-needed basis.
Your new role
Here at Hitachi Rail, we have a unique opportunity for an experienced Technical Learning and Development Specialist – Rolling Stock to support training for the differing fleets maintained at the TMCs and any outstation connected to the maintenance contracts, using HRE or 3rd Party staff.
The role can be based at either London North Pole Depot or London Bounds Green Depot.
Specifically, you will be responsible for the following deliverables:
- Develop and deliver Technical, Operational and Safety-Related training to meet business needs and industry standards and best practice (ORR/RSP1, RSSB rulebook and RSSB RS/100).
- Develop training material to meet identified specifications following internal processes to produce risk-based training needs analysis (RBTNA) and training needs analysis (TNA).
- Carry out evaluations to continuously improve training documentation and delivery.
- Deliver training to various roles within operations, service and maintenance.
- Carry out formal assessments to determine competence of safety-critical staff and non-safety-critical staff across job roles in operations, service and maintenance.
- Fulfil duties of job roles and safety-critical assessments across roles within operations, service and maintenance.
- Participate in internal verification practices.
- Ensure training records are accurate and processed in a timely manner.
- Follow business processes & procedures safely.
- Comply with and implement HRE’s Health and Safety policy; work to reduce health and safety risks.
- Be involved in staff development & training; participate in the Personal Development Process (PDP).
- Act as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for TMC operational processes to support creation and review of local SOPs to ensure HSAWA compliance.
- Support as SME on accident/technical investigations where required.
- Assist the L&D Manager in preparing for internal and external audits.
About you
- A desire to assist and develop others and a passion for training.
- Served an apprenticeship in electrical or mechanical discipline, or NVQ Level 3 in electrical or mechanical discipline.
- Commitment to working as part of a team.
- Experience in providing guidance and support to others.
- Familiar with SAP software and business management tools.
- Practical experience in maintenance and fault-finding activities.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical and pneumatic schematics and mechanical drawings.
- Experience communicating information effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Literate in Microsoft Office to create and format documents (including email).
- Good understanding of health and safety requirements in a working environment.
- Experience and commitment to equal opportunities and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) policies.
Desirable Requirements
- Recognised qualifications in training and assessing to company or national standards.
- Experience identifying individual and collective learning and development needs.
- Experience writing training course guides and learner materials for different learning styles.
- High level of experience using SAP and related business management tools.
- Vocational experience in T&RS maintenance and fault finding, especially with modern T&RS fleets.
- Experience delivering basic maintenance/engineering skills training.
- Experience designing tests & assessments to ensure learning objectives are met.
- Experience attending quality and standardisation meetings.
- Experience ensuring health & safety requirements are met in your area of responsibility.
- Understanding of Non-Technical Skills (NTS) and their use in safety-critical tasks.
