Here at Hitachi Rail, we have a great opportunity for enthusiastic self-motivated Wheel Lathe Technician to join our team at North Pole Train Maintenance Centre in London.
Salary: £43,375 15% Shift allowance £6000 Location allowance Permanent Contract
Accountabilities:
- Operate and maintain the wheel lathe and carry out associated activities that support the operations of the wheel lathe.
- Maintain the condition of the work site, materials and equipment.
- Support health and safety practices in the workplace.
- Prepare for and undertake planned maintenance on the wheel lathe & ancillary equipment.
- Carry out wheel turning for Hitachi and third party rolling stock.
- Post operation checks and adjustments.
- Confirm that traction and rolling stock assets comply with operational specifications.
- Provide operational support to fleet staff if lathe duties permit.
- Develop professionally and support good working relationships.
- Learn new skills in accordance with Hitachi’s new business demands as required.
- Liaison with Hitachi and external personnel as required to complete the duties of the post.
About you:
Required Skills/Knowledge:
- Milling/Turning/CNC or similar experience.
- Sound knowledge of, and compliance to, rules and regulations.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
Education/Qualifications:
- M & E ONC or served apprenticeship with mechanical, electrical disciplines.
- Engineering based NVQ level 3 or 2.
Behavioural:
- Calm and diplomatic under pressure.
- Loyal, committed, confident and determined.
- Good team worker.
- Able to represent Hitachi in a professional manner at all times.
Desired Skills (not essential):
- Intermediate IT skills – typically Word, Excel.
- Milling/Turning/CNC or similar experience.
- Network Rail Sentinel PTS.
- Depot driving and shunting.
- Wheel Lathe operations & maintenance.
