Help us make exercise genuinely accessible
Gympanzees is creating the UK’s first fully inclusive leisure, exercise and play centre for disabled children and young people and their families.
Based at our new 14-acre centre in South Gloucestershire, we’re looking for Gym Navigators to help make our inclusive gym a safe, welcoming and empowering place for the people who use it.
This isn’t your typical gym-floor role.
You’ll support disabled children and young people and their families, with opportunities to support adults as our service develops. Helping them access equipment and physical activity safely, confidently and at their own pace. You’ll adapt your communication and practical support to the individual, encourage independence and help create positive experiences of movement and exercise.
What you'll be doing
You’ll be a visible and supportive presence in the gym, helping people use equipment safely and appropriately, adapting your approach for different physical, learning, sensory and communication needs.
You’ll also help keep the gym safe, organised and ready for use, complete routine checks, report equipment or safety concerns and work closely with colleagues across the Centre.
Who we're looking for
You don’t need to arrive knowing everything.
We’re looking for someone who is warm, patient, encouraging and genuinely committed to inclusion. You’ll have experience of supporting disabled children, young people and/or adults - whether through paid work, volunteering or relevant lived experience - and understand that good support looks different for different people.
You’ll be comfortable adapting your communication and approach, working as part of a team, following safety procedures and recognising when something sits outside your own knowledge or competence.
A Level 2 Fitness Instructor qualification is desirable, but it isn't essential when you join us. If you don't already hold it, Gympanzees will fund your Level 2 Fitness Instructor training as part of your development in the role. We're looking for the right person, with the right values, experience and approach - we'll support you to build the technical knowledge and qualification you need.
You'll also receive role-specific training and development to help you build your knowledge and confidence in inclusive and adaptive exercise.
What you'll get
You'll be joining Gympanzees at a really exciting time - helping shape a brand-new service before the doors even open.
- Generous annual leave and wellbeing allowance: 33 days' paid leave (full-time equivalent), comprising 22 days' annual leave, 8 bank holidays and 3 flexible wellbeing and caring days. These flexible days can be used for emergency caring responsibilities, essential health and wellbeing needs, or simply added to your annual leave
- Your birthday off: An additional paid day off to celebrate your birthday, because that day is all about you!
- Healthcare cash plan: Helping you with the cost of everyday healthcare
- Employee Assistance Programme: Confidential support for your mental health, wellbeing and everyday challenges
- Training and development: Opportunities to build your skills, develop professionally and grow with Gympanzees
- Sick pay and company pension: Supporting your financial wellbeing and security
- Gympanzees family benefit: Access to a preferential staff rate for your family at our permanent Centre
We want Gympanzees to be for everyone
We’re committed to building a diverse and inclusive team and actively encourage applications from people of all backgrounds, particularly Disabled people, people from ethnic minority backgrounds and LGBTQ+ people.
As a Disability Confident Employer, we guarantee an interview to applicants who meet the essential criteria in line with our scheme commitments.
The successful applicant will be required to complete the appropriate safer recruitment and pre-employment checks for the role.
