Join us as our Transport Operations Lead in our Gateshead (NE11 0PZ) depot, where you will coordinate our transport operation to ensure our fleet operates in full compliance, whilst also ensuring we provide operational excellence for our network and customer, efficiently and cost effectively.
You’ll be a pivotal leader within our Transport Operations Lead opportunity, as you embrace and role model being a culture of safety first, inclusive, impactful, along with game changing and delivering results!
This is a full time, permanent position with core hours of Monday to Friday 08:00 to 17:00 (some flexibility required for business needs).

We’re looking to offer a salary of up to £42,000 per annum, and 25 days annual leave (plus bank holidays). What you’ll do on a typical day:
- Lead and manage depot transport operations, ensuring full compliance with all driver, vehicle, and Operator Licence legislation while meeting customer and network requirements.
- Drive operational efficiency through effective planning, performance monitoring, and continuous improvement of transport strategies and cost control.
- Develop and manage driver teams, including training, performance, and employee relations, while promoting a safe, inclusive, and high-performing culture.
- Oversee fleet maintenance, compliance records, and Health & Safety standards, ensuring all systems, audits, and regulatory requirements are consistently met.
What you need to succeed at GXO:
- Proven experience in a similar transport role, ideally within a 3PL environment, with strong knowledge of route planning, driver hours, working time directive, and transport legislation (International CPC would be advantageous!).
- Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to manage, coach, and develop high-performing teams while building effective relationships with customers and stakeholders.
- Solid understanding of Health & Safety requirements, financial performance, and transport systems, with experience using vehicle management tools (e.g., Tacho-master, Microlise are a good to have!).
- Resilient and proactive mindset, able to perform under pressure, handle challenging situations, and drive continuous improvement and cost-saving initiatives.
