Are you a hands‑on Controls Technician who thrives in both electrical engineering and software programming? Do you enjoy solving complex automation challenges using Siemens TIA S7‑1500 PLCs? Ready to be the go‑to expert providing critical out‑of‑hours support that keeps high‑performance systems running 24/7? Here at GXO, we’re looking for a skilled Controls Technician to join the Inteq Technical Team, helping deliver and support cutting‑edge warehouse automation solutions.

In this hybrid role, you’ll split your time evenly between electrical system build/servicing and PLC/HMI software work, primarily using Siemens TIA S7‑1500 platforms. You’ll play a key part in installation, commissioning, diagnostics, and customer support across the full project lifecycle. As the first line of 24/7 out‑of‑hours support, you’ll keep mission‑critical systems running smoothly through expert remote and on‑site troubleshooting. This is a full‑time permanent position. You’ll be working Monday to Friday, 09:00 till 17:30, however you will be required to provide 24/7 out of hours support. Some flexibility is required, this is logistics after all!

We’re looking to offer a salary of up to £55,000, depending on experience and 25 days annual leave (plus bank holidays). Your benefits package includes a company sponsored pension scheme and private medical cover.

What you’ll do on a typical day:

  • Build, install, and configure control panels and electrical systems for warehouse automation solutions.
  • Develop, support, and commission Siemens TIA S7‑1500 PLC and HMI software, ensuring seamless system functionality.
  • Perform rigorous testing, diagnostics, and electrical servicing to maximise uptime and efficiency.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering teams to integrate hardware and software across full project lifecycles.
  • Act as the first point of contact for 24/7 out‑of‑hours PLC/HMI issues, delivering remote diagnostics and on‑site support when required.

What you need to succeed at GXO:

  • NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering, Automation, or a related field, plus City & Guilds 2391 (Initial & Periodic Inspection and Testing).
  • Strong working knowledge of BS7671, H&S regulations, industrial risk assessments, and compliance requirements.
  • Proven ability to build and install industrial control panels, including wiring, component selection, and BS‑standard layouts.
  • Hands‑on experience with Siemens TIA Portal / S7‑1500 PLC programming, including code modifications, uploads/downloads, and software fault‑finding.
  • Skilled in electrical and control system commissioning, troubleshooting (hardware & software), interpreting schematics, and performing testing/calibration using multimeters, insulation testers, etc.
