Ready to lead our Road to Zero journey while shaping strategy, compliance and colleague safety across the network?

Here at GXO Logistics, we are looking for a Contract Head of Safety to provide professional leadership across Environmental, Health & Safety, Quality and Road Risk on our B&Q contract - one of our largest and most high-profile partnerships, where your leadership will make a real impact. This is a pivotal role within the senior leadership team, offering a unique opportunity to influence strategy and shape safety culture across a major national operation. You will influence senior stakeholders, coach site-based QSHE teams, and ensure robust systems, audits and reporting are in place to keep our colleagues safe and our operations compliant and efficient.

This is a full-time, permanent position, contracted Monday to Friday (flexibility is essential - this is logistics after all). Regular travel across the contract network is expected.

Pay, benefits and more:

You will be paid a competitive salary with the opportunity to earn an additional bonus up to 20%. You will also receive 25 days annual leave (plus bank holidays), as well as the option to buy additional days so you can enjoy a positive work-life balance. Your benefits package includes a company car or car allowance of £595 per calendar month, a company sponsored pension scheme, private medical and dental insurance, a 24/7 online GP service, life assurance and a fully comprehensive employee assistance programme. You will have access to our MyBenefits platform offering a variety of high street discounts, a cycle to work scheme, cashback cards, a saving scheme and much more. You will also have access to our GXO University which provides you with the opportunity to learn new skills and gain qualifications at a pace that you’re comfortable with. There’s also our continued focus on internal promotions, over 55% last year!

What you’ll do on a typical day:

  • Lead the QHSE agenda across a multi-site contract: set objectives, drive engagement and embed a culture of prevention and continuous improvement in line with our Road to Zero philosophy.
  • Provide expert advice and leadership to the Senior Operations Director, BU Head of QHSE and site management teams; influence internal and external stakeholders to uphold and elevate standards.
  • Promote and drive a culture of safety engagement in line with the Road to Zero philosophy and improve performance through the implementation of relevant management systems, current standards and legislation; maintenance of a safe and healthy working environment by the identification and control of risks, leading to the prevention of accidents and causes of work-related ill health.
  • Build communication and engagement: run comms plans, forums and Town Halls; ensure safety is a standing agenda item in business meetings; chair/coordinate Site QHSE Committees.

What you need to succeed at GXO:

  • Minimum 5 years experience in a QHSE senior leadership role within a relevant industry, with multi-site leadership experience in a matrix environment.
  • NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent level 6 qualification in Health & Safety) qualified as a minimum.
  • Deep knowledge of UK H&S legislation, compliance, audits and governance (including RIDDOR, Dangerous Goods and Road Risk).
  • Strong stakeholder influence and communication skills - confident operating with senior leaders, enforcement authorities and customer auditors.
  • Data-driven approach to performance management: KPIs, dashboards, trend analysis and action tracking.
  • People-focused leadership: able to coach, develop and support site-based QSHE teams, building engagement and accountability.
