Are you a proven leader in logistics with a passion for operational excellence and people development? Are you commercially focused with the ability to drive operational improvements? Are you ready to deliver leading-edge quality and customer experience? Here at GXO, we are currently looking for an Assistant General Manager to join our successful Screwfix contract at our automated, 24/7 unionised e-fulfilment site in Stoke on Trent (Trentham), that delivers a next day promise to our end customers.
This is a full time, permanent position, where you will be working Monday – Friday, 37.5 hours per week. Some flexibility is required, this is logistics after all.

What you will do on a typical day:
- Exemplify the GXO values: be safe; be inclusive; make an impact; change the game; deliver results
- Lead, develop and inspire the operational team, ensuring performance is focussed and engaged, with business goals achieved whilst maximising individuals' potential
- Report to the General Manager and give direction and monitor performance ensuring the site runs efficiently and effectively with direct responsibility for full end to end activities on site, taking accountability for overall productivity of the operation
- Ensure effective communication throughout the operational leadership team; plan; perform; deliver; adapt
- Grow positive relations with the People Leadership team ensuring delivery of a solid people plan across site, securing and maintaining the best talent to deliver business objectives and robust succession
- Strive to ensure a high level of SHEQ performance is achieved and that the site operates in line with all company and customer procedures and requirements relating to Health, Safety, Environment and Quality
- Drive and maintain a high-performance culture across the site through motivating and guiding the leadership team to deliver operational excellence and continuously meet performance and productivity targets
- Drive a continuous improvement programme, identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and effectiveness
- Deputise for the site GM as required
- Be the successor to the GM role within 1 to 2 years

- Experience in e-fulfilment and automation is advantageous
- Experienced in high-volume fast-paced large sites
- Proven effective communicator and ability to influence at all levels
- Experience of delivering successful transformation
- Be bold, curious, and engaging
- Demonstrate your ability to deliver high performance through a culture of accountability and ownership
- Have an agile approach with a proven experience of adapting plans to changing customer requirements
- Strong planning and analytical skills
