As our Senior Category Manager (Fleet), you'll be utilising your proven experience in commercial fleet procurement, including (but not limited to) specialist vehicles, trailers, tyres, repair and maintenance services and ancillary products. Your expertise will add value whilst building strong relationships with internal stakeholders and collaborating cross-functionally with operations to deliver end-to-end sourcing solutions. You'll play a pivotal role in building on our commercial strategy for the acquisition of our diverse Fleet category through long-term growth and supplier relationships.
You'll strategically manage allocated fleet expenditure categories, applying best-practise procurement methodologies to identify opportunities for cost optimisation, value creation and performance improvement. In addition to your commercial role, you will also form part of the extended procurement leadership and will play a role in helping the function through the next phase of growth. This is a full-time, permanent position. You'll be working Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week. National role, with hybrid travel to Lancaster House, Northampton.
Pay, benefits and more
We're looking to offer a salary of circa £70,000 to £80,000 per annum (dependent on level of experience), and 25 days annual leave (plus bank holidays). Your benefits package includes a company car OR car allowance to the value of £6,000 PA, a discretionary annual bonus of a max 15%, private medical insurance, a company-sponsored pension scheme, life assurance and access to our benefits platform, including retail discounts.
What you'll do on a typical day
- Lead the fleet category strategy across a £250m spend, securing strong commercial outcomes, compliant contracts, and measurable value.
- Work with counterparts in the European teams to ensure we are driving maximum value across the region.
- Manage and develop a high-performing procurement team, providing direction, coaching, and succession planning.
- Drive cross-functional sourcing and supplier performance, including negotiations, contract development, KPIs/SLAs, and continuous improvement.
- Act as a trusted procurement leader and stakeholder influencer, representing the function credibly at all levels, including Executive teams.
- Optimise supplier management and governance, ensuring market-led decision making, compliance to central agreements, supplier base rationalisation, and support for business development opportunities.
What you need to succeed at GXO
- Proven experience in managing commercial fleet categories, ideally in a 3PL procurement environment.
- High-level fleet technical knowledge around vehicle specifications.
- Experience managing and developing direct reports, working to objectives and deliverables.
- Strong ability in identifying, leading innovation and finding solutions through cross-functional teams.
- Supplier management experience, with best-in-class deliverables and continuous improvement.
- Experience in working with procurement governance and delivering relevant value in a challenging, fast-paced environment (MCIPS qualified or studying towards is preferred).
