This is an advertisement for the post of Domestic Assistant at Plas y Don, Pwllheli for the Adult Health and Wellbeing. Language requirements
  • Listening and Speaking – Intermediate: Able to maintain a fluent conversation in Welsh and discuss cases involving the field of work. Able to follow a discussion in Welsh, in Clear Welsh, on familiar matters relating to the post. Able to contribute to the conversation and answer questions.
  • Reading and Understanding – Intermediate: Understand everyday correspondence on familiar issues at work. Understand longer reports in Clear Welsh and be able to pick up the main points (help may be required with the vocabulary).
  • Writing – Intermediate: Able to write letters for a specific purpose, emails and short reports in Welsh and English, using vocabulary and simple phrases that are familiar to the field of work (they will need to be checked before being sent out).
Job Description

Purpose of the post – Ensure that the people of Gwynedd are at the heart of everything we do. To ensure that the physical and emotional welfare of the users is met by operating individual User Plans. To ensure that a comfortable and clean environment is maintained in the home. This will all be done by following the Council’s guidelines and policies.

Responsibilities for functions
  • To respect and use all equipment and apparatus in the home appropriately.
  • To notify the manager or the person with responsibility for the home at the time as soon as possible of any deficiencies in any equipment, or utilities (water, electricity, gas etc.).
  • To ensure appropriate management of user’s property e.g. medicine and cash.
Main duties
  • To ensure that the dignity and independence of the service users are respected through good care practices and in accordance with the National Minimum Standards for Care Homes for Older People.
  • To be sensitive to the need to respect the rights of individuals at all times.
  • To maintain confidentiality on all aspects of the home’s activities.
  • To undertake cleaning and laundry duties.
  • To prepare meals and drinks as required and serve the meals.
  • Attend training courses and NVQ Level 2 particularly in order to ensure a consistent awareness of care issues.
  • To attend meetings in accordance with the guidance of the Registered Home Manager.
  • To register with the Care Council in accordance with national guidelines.
  • Responsibility for self-development.
  • Ensure compliance with Health and Safety rules in the workplace in accordance with the responsibilities noted in the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and the Council’s Health and Safety Policy.
  • Operate within the Council’s policies in relation to equal opportunities and equality.
  • Responsible for managing information in accordance with the Council’s information management guidelines.
  • Ensure that personal information is treated in accordance with Data Protection legislation.
  • Commitment to reducing the Council’s carbon emissions in accordance with the Carbon Management Plan, and to encourage others to act positively towards reducing the Council’s Carbon Footprint.
  • Undertake any other reasonable duty which corresponds to the salary level and responsibility level of the job.

Special circumstances

The need to work unsociable hours over seven days on a rota basis. An additional allowance will be paid for the above.
