Responsibilities include assisting the Cook in Charge with preparation of simple food, food service, setting up and clearing the dining room. Duties also involve washing equipment and cleaning the kitchen and dining room, working under the direction of the Cook in Charge or the Deputy. You will assist in the preparation of simple food and serve food, keeping all kitchen and dining room areas clean, including the building fabric when the dining room is used only as a dining area. When the dining room is used for more than one purpose, you will need to clean the floor and remove all traces of food using a damp mop if necessary.

Perform general kitchen duties including washing dishes, setting and clearing equipment and dining room furniture. In the absence of the Assistant Cook, you will act as in-charge of the kitchen at the appropriate pay grade. It is important to maintain a high degree of personal cleanliness and wear suitable clean overalls. Compliance with Gwynedd Council Health and Safety Policy and Food Safety Policy is essential.

You will carry out any other relevant duties following a reasonable request and take responsibility for self-development. Ensure compliance with Health and Safety rules in the workplace in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and the Council's Health and Safety Policy. Operate within the Council's equal opportunities and equality policies, manage information in accordance with the Council's information management guidelines, and treat personal information in line with Data Protection legislation. Commit to reducing the Council's carbon emissions in line with the Carbon Management Plan and encourage others to act positively toward reducing the Council's carbon footprint. Undertake any other reasonable duty that corresponds to the salary level and responsibility level of the job. Report any concern or suspicion that a child or vulnerable adult is being abused.

Special Circumstances: Be available to provide refreshments outside normal working hours, such as during service training days.

Personal Attributes: Ability to work as part of a school team and kitchen team. Self-motivated with a positive disposition.

Qualifications and Relevant Training: Essential - Basic food hygiene or agreement to pass the course within 3 months of appointment. Desirable - Training in food production or food service skills; Training in health and safety (e.g., moving and handling or first aid); Experience in a food production environment.

Skills and Specialist Knowledge: Essential - Good interpersonal skills; Good communication skills.

Language Requirements: Listening and speaking – Entry: Able to pronounce names correctly; able to follow instructions and understand simple conversation in Welsh and English on familiar matters, and respond to simple requests. Reading and understanding – Entry: Able to read and understand short and simple letters, e-mails, leaflets and signs in Welsh and English on familiar everyday issues, and convey them to someone else. Writing – Entry: Able to write a simple message requesting or giving information about familiar everyday issues at work.
