Qualifications and Relevant Training:

  • Essential: QCF 2 / NVQ 2 in Care (or similar qualification) or commitment to qualify within a specific timetable.
  • Desirable: Health and Safety training (e.g. Manual Handling, First Aid) and relevant training in the social care field.

Experience:

  • Essential: Relevant experience of caring or working with vulnerable adults.
  • Desirable: Experience of general domestic work such as housekeeping or working in a professional team.

Skills and Specialist Knowledge:

  • Essential: Good interpersonal and communicating skills; understanding of the principles of providing care.
  • Desirable: Understanding and knowledge of specific health conditions; awareness of the Care Act 2000 and relevant standards; valid driving licence.

Language Requirements:

  • Listening and speaking – intermediate: maintain a fluent conversation on everyday subjects, discuss work-related cases, follow, contribute and answer questions in both Welsh and English.
  • Reading and understanding – intermediate: understand everyday correspondence, longer reports in Clear Welsh, with occasional vocabulary support.
  • Writing – intermediate: write letters, e‑mails and short reports in Welsh and English, using familiar vocabulary; drafts must be reviewed before sending.

Job Description Purpose of the post: Ensure that the people of Gwynedd are at the heart of everything we do. Assist individuals with learning disabilities to live their lives in the way they wish to live, develop skills and enable participation in the community.

Responsibility for functions: No responsibility for resources.

Main Duties and Key Tasks:

  • Support the individuals who use the Service.
  • Work to meet objectives of the individuals you are supporting and respect their rights.
  • Follow an Active Support ethos and Positive Behaviour Support, promoting independence.
  • Assist with personal care in a dignified and respectful manner.
  • Contribute to or follow the individuals' Personal Care Plans.

Communication and Relationships: Co‑operate and communicate with professional workers and families/carers.

Guidance and Policies: Act in accordance with the Social Services and Well‑Being Act 2014, service and Gwynedd Council's guidelines and policies. Commit to a Professional Social Care Code of Practice.

Training and Supervision: Receive supervision and mentoring from experienced staff. Follow Gwynedd Council Learning and Improvement programmes, mandatory for professional development. Complete professional qualifications when needed.

Safeguarding: Identify, record, report and participate in safeguarding vulnerable adult protocols. Ensure self‑development and compliance with Health and Safety rules, Data Protection legislation, equal opportunities, and the council's Carbon Management Plan. Undertake any reasonable duty corresponding to the salary and responsibility level. Report any concern of abuse of a child or vulnerable adult.

Special Circumstances: Post-holder must undertake manual handling tasks including wheelchairs and hoists. Expected to work across other sites of the service if mandatory.
