Purpose of the post
Ensure that the people of Gwynedd are at the heart of everything we do. Assist individuals with learning disabilities to live their lives in the way they wish to live, assist them to develop skills and ensure opportunities to be a part of their community.
Main Duties & Key Tasks
- Support the individuals who use the service: work to meet objectives of the individual you are supporting, and ensure you respect the individual's rights; follow an Active Support ethos and Positive Behaviour Support; assist with personal care in a dignified and respected manner; contribute to/follow the individual's personal care plans.
- Communication and relationships: co‑operate and communicate with professional workers and families/carers.
- Guidance and policies: act in accordance with the requirements of the Social Services and Well‑being Act 2014 and the service and Gwynedd Council’s guidelines and policies; commit to a Professional Social Care Code of Practice.
- Training and supervision: receive supervision and mentoring from experienced staff members; evaluate and follow Gwynedd Council's Learning and Improvement programmes; commit to completing professional qualifications when needed.
- Safeguarding: follow local and national policies and procedures to identify, record, report, and participate in safeguarding vulnerable adult protocols; responsible for self‑development; ensure compliance with Health and Safety rules; operate within the Council’s policies in relation to equal opportunities and equality; manage information in accordance with the Council’s information management guidelines and Data Protection legislation.
- Special circumstances: undertake manual handling tasks which can include wheelchairs and hoists; may be required to undertake duties not outlined above at the team manager or line manager’s request; expected to work across other sites of the service if mandatory.

Qualifications and Relevant Training
- Essential: QCF 2/NVQ 2 in Care (or similar qualification) or commitment to qualify within a specific timetable.
- Desirable: Health and Safety training e.g. Manual Handling, First Aid. Relevant training in the social care field.
Experience
- Essential: Experience of caring or working with vulnerable adults.
- Desirable: Experience of general domestic work such as housekeeping. Desirable: Experience of working in a professional team.
Skills and Specialist Knowledge
- Essential: Possess good interpersonal skills; good communicating skills; understanding of the principles of providing care.
- Desirable: Understanding and knowledge of specific health conditions. Awareness of the Care Act 2000 and an understanding of the relevant standards. Possess a valid driving licence.
Language Requirements
- Listening and Speaking – Intermediate: Able to maintain a fluent conversation on a number of various everyday subjects, discuss cases involving the field of work, follow a discussion in Welsh, in Clear Welsh, on familiar matters relating to the post, and contribute to the conversation and answer questions.
- Reading and Understanding – Intermediate: Understand everyday correspondence on familiar issues at work; understand longer reports in Clear Welsh and be able to pick up the main points.
- Writing – Intermediate: Able to write letters for a specific purpose, e‑mails and short reports in Welsh and English, using vocabulary and simple phrases that are familiar to the field of work.
