Building Surveyor Required in Chelmsford. GVR Solutions are currently working with a well-established housing association that operate on the client-side, who are seeking an experienced Building Surveyor to join their team in Chelmsford.

As a Building Surveyor, you will be responsible for carrying out property inspections across a large residential housing portfolio, identifying defects, assessing building condition and producing detailed reports.

Responsibilities of the Building Surveyor:

  • Survey buildings and properties on a regular basis to evaluate their condition, determine the necessity for repairs, and verify structural integrity.
  • Perform comprehensive property surveys, particularly focusing on the identification and assessment of damp, mould, and condensation (DMC) and disrepair cases.
  • Plan, organise, and prioritise a substantial workload while working remotely.
  • Investigate issues related to building materials, construction methods, and environmental impact.
  • Maintain precise and comprehensive records, ensuring that appropriate certification is furnished for each completed project.
  • Ensure that all of the repair and maintenance work comply with local and national building codes, health and safety regulations.
  • Carry out detailed building surveys and/or property condition analysis, including the commissioning and coordination of specialist contractors and consultants as required, to deliver remediation solutions to bring the asset to standard.

The Building Surveyor must have/be:

  • Experience working as a Building Surveyor within Social Housing, Housing Associations or residential property.
  • Strong experience of carrying out building surveys and analysis defects, including writing reports.
  • Strong understanding of construction methods and building materials.
  • Excellent IT skills and experience of using a range of IT systems, including Microsoft Office.
  • Good understanding of relevant building regulations and health & safety requirements.
  • Have a strong level of technical expertise and a good understanding of defects falling under relevant legislation such as, but not limited to, Landlord and Tenant Act 1985, the Environmental Protection Act 1990, and the Homes (Fitness for Human Habitation) Act 2018, Social Housing Regulation Act 2023, HHSRS regulations.
  • Strong communication skills for interacting with clients and other professionals.
