The Guernsey Renal Satellite Unit is currently recruiting a full time substantive Band 6 Renal Nurse to work within the dialysis satellite setting. Candidates should be able to demonstrate leadership skills, have recent experience in renal care and dialysis, be passionate in providing excellent care for patients with chronic needs, and take pride in contributing to a good working environment in which patients receive a high standard of care.
Main duties of the job:
- Independently manage a group of patients within the specialty whilst working as part of the multidisciplinary team, delivering individualised and personalised direct patient care.
- Demonstrate appropriate clinical practice and decision-making in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care.
- Be responsible for assessing and planning care for new patients on haemodialysis, delivering appropriate information and education.
- Responsible for the correct administration of prescribed medication including transfusion of blood and blood products.
- Be responsible for assessing and recognising emergencies in the specialty.
- Act as an advocate for patients within the department.
- Ensure that patients receive high quality clinical care and a good patient experience.
- Recognise and avoid situations that may be detrimental to the health and wellbeing of the individuals.
- Support and enable patients and Carers to make informed decisions relating to their treatment and management.
- Participate in case conferences in relation to the management of patients.
- Ensure staff take precautions to minimise the risk of cross infection.
- A key member of the multidisciplinary team in supporting patients and their Carers during the delivery of bad news.
- Assess educational and information needs for patients and families, and devise plans to ensure needs are met.
- To be an effective communicator with patients/Carers/families regarding disease treatment and management.
- Promote high quality clinical care, and assist in the development of the specialist service.
- Provide a seamless, high quality service from referral through to assessment, diagnosis, treatment and review.
Person specification:
Knowledge:
- Evidence of professional/clinical knowledge in renal and dialysis.
- Evidence of Teaching/Assessment experience and training.
- Post registration qualification in renal care or demonstrate relevant experience and competence.
- BSc qualification/training and experience.
Skills:
- Good communication skills and ability to deal with sensitive information.
- Ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate specialist care delivered to patients/clients.
- An understanding of audit and research based nursing practice.
- Good knowledge of the complex renal medication and the use in dialysis.
- Ability to organise and plan own time and that of Junior staff and learners.
- Aware of clinical governance and risk management issues.
Experience:
- Previous post registration experience in haemodialysis.
- Experienced and competent in the management of patients within the renal speciality.
- Experience of teaching/assessing/supervising others in a clinical setting.
- Experience in taking charge of shifts and managing clinical issues.
- Home Dialysis Experience.
- Shared Care dialysis Experience.
