Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced, caring and highly motivated radiographer to work as a Team Leader in Pre-Treatment at Guys Cancer Centre.

We are looking for a radiographer with an excellent technical background and strong leadership attributes to work in a progressive Pre-Treatment department, with sophisticated scanning and planning techniques. This includes motion management through EEBH, 4DCT, DiBH, advanced contrast enhancement methodologies and an Eclipse virtual simulation suite.

The departments routinely operate extended day working and shift patterns apply for machine service days and unscheduled service interruptions. Bank holiday and weekend working take place in line with the department and service operational needs. Participation on the on-call rota is a requirement of this post.

Main duties of the job

To join the leadership team in Pre-Treatment to effectively deliver the service with the support of the Section and Operational Lead radiographers. To maintain excellent patient centred care at all times in line with the trust values.

To uphold high standards of accuracy and quality in all aspects of pre-treatment, including preparations, patient positioning, CT scanning, contrast delivery, virtual simulation and working in MRI. To ensure that junior and rotating radiographers are supported in their learning and to drive service development.

  • HCPC registration

Education/ Qualifications

  • BSc or DCR (T)
  • Postgraduate diploma or equivalent knowledge of a range of work procedures and practices underpinned by relevant practical experience
  • MSc in Therapeutic Radiography or equivalent
  • Management or Leadership qualification

Previous Experience

  • Experience of working as a Senior Radiographer/Band 6 in a Radiotherapy department to include work on a wide range of Radiotherapy equipment.
  • Contrast giving

Skills/Knowledge/Ability

  • Demonstrate experience/knowledge of Radiotherapy planning.
  • Demonstrate high levels of hand, eye and sensory co-ordination to ensure precise patient set-ups.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Demonstrate Leadership qualities and the ability to motivate staff to achieve their full potential.
  • Demonstrate organisational abilities and good time management skills.
  • Demonstrate a high level of Communication skills, including the ability to deal with sensitive information & to deal with anxious and demanding patients using tact and persuasive skills.
  • Demonstrate Problem solving and Decision Making abilities.
  • Demonstrate an ability to work under pressure, in an unpredictable working environment, maintaining a calm and professional attitude.
  • Demonstrate a good level of theoretical skills.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the current Radiation Regulations.
  • Demonstrate experience on a wide range of advanced Radiotherapy techniques eg SABR, DIBH.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of QA in Radiotherapy.
