Guy’s and St Thomas’ is among the UK’s busiest and most successful NHS foundation trusts. We provide a full range of hospital and community services for people in south London and as well as specialist care for patients from further afield including cancer, renal, orthopaedic, respiratory and cardiovascular services.
The post holder will be part of the Payroll team responsible for accurate and timely processing of pay, expenses and absence data using the ESR System. This will include dealing with complex input and pay related issues. The post holder will also be responsible for providing a help desk support service for employees and managers.
Main duties of the job:
- An opportunity has arisen to join the payroll team as a full time Payroll Officer.
- The role is part of the Trust Payroll and Pensions team, which is responsible for providing pay services for 26,000 monthly paid staff and around 1,000 weekly paid staff.
- Using the Electronic Staff Record system (ESR) and HR systems the payroll team processes all pay related changes for monthly paid staff.
- The team also provides direct support to staff using ESR and HR Systems.
Experience of using both HR Systems and ESR systems for a minimum of 6 months is a key requirement for this role.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities:
- To support the Payroll team in providing a comprehensive payroll service ensuring that Trust staff changes to pay recorded via the HR System are processed and validated in line with processing timetables.
- To ensure that leavers and changes are accurately processed and validated to strict deadlines and in accordance with organisation regulations and procedures.
- To provide clear and accurate advice and guidance to managers and staff in respect of submitting pay changes.
- To respond promptly to queries from managers and budget holders in respect of actions taken in ESR.
Person specification:
Knowledge:- Knowledge of integrated HR and Payroll systems
- Knowledge of the Data Protection Act
- Knowledge of NHS Terms and Conditions of Service
- Experience within Payroll or Transactional HR Services environment
- Experience dealing with issues related to pay, terms and conditions
- Experience working to demanding targets and meeting tight deadlines in accordance with Service Level Agreements
- Demonstrable experience of managing computer based payroll/HR systems
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- High degree of numeracy and attention to detail
