We have an exciting opportunity to join the paediatric respiratory team at Royal Brompton Hospital as a Long Term Ventilation (LTV) and Non-invasive Ventilation (NIV) clinical nurse specialist. The successful candidate will work as part of the established and growing clinical Multidisciplinary team (MDT) working with a specific group of children and young people requiring LTV and NIV.
The post holder will work alongside the clinical nurse specialist and multi-disciplinary team to deliver excellent care for these children, young people, and their families within the six Cs framework of nursing. The post involves working autonomously with children and families on the ward, in clinics and in the community carrying out home and school visits as needed. You would also support nursing colleagues in other trusts and in the community as well as supporting the child to access school.
We are looking for a children’s nurse with good experience of caring for children with respiratory disease and ideally experience in caring for children and young people who require LTV and NIV support. This post is also an excellent opportunity for development, and we would welcome someone who is keen to develop and gain experience working as a CNS in our friendly team.
Main duties of the job
- In partnership with members of the multidisciplinary nursing team, develop, implement and evaluate a seamless specialist service, ensuring that patients receive the highest standard of clinical care.
- Act as a lead specialist and demonstrate a high level of expertise within the specialist service, providing specialist advice, education and support to health care professionals and patients.
- Actively undertake clinical audits and research within the specialist area.
- Contribute to the ongoing development of clinical practice, research and standards of care within the service, including development of policies, protocols and guidelines.
- Ensure the safety and well being of service users, promoting dignity and human rights through the adoption of person-centered care principles.
Person specification
Qualifications/education
- BSC/1st degree (health related) or equivalent qualification/training and experience.
- Your professional knowledge acquired at degree level will be supplemented by specialist training, experience and short courses to Masters level equivalent.
- Post registration qualification in appropriate area of specialty or equivalent post qualification experience.
- To have or working towards a masters degree.
- To have or working towards a non-medical physical assessment course.
Professional/Statutory Registration
- RN1 or RN Child Registered Nurse on the NMC register, holding the appropriate level for the area of specialty.
- Extensive experience of working autonomously at an advanced level within the specialist area delivering effective patient-focused care.
- Proven evidence of management/leadership skills and autonomous practice.
Skills/Knowledge/Ability
- Advanced clinical, managerial and leadership skills in specialty.
- Proven listening/counselling skills with the ability to manage complex situations and appropriately deliver sensitive and difficult outcomes.
- Ability to interpret and analyse complex data and findings.
- Undertaken clinical & nursing research.
