The Innovation Manager supports the Director of Innovation to execute core parts of the innovation strategy by embedding improved delivery practices and test-and-learn capabilities across Impact on Urban Health and, where relevant, the wider Foundation, overseeing a priority set of cross-IoUH and within-programme innovation projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Innovation Execution: Work with the Director of Innovation to identify areas for change or improvement within the organisation, developing strategies that consider the organisation’s culture, structure and operational workflow.
  • Stakeholder Management: Identify key stakeholders affected by proposed changes and develop engagement plans, facilitating workshops or meetings to gather input and ensure stakeholder buy-in.
  • Project Management: Lead cross-functional project teams to implement changes, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within scope and on budget, while utilising project management tools and methodologies to track progress and address issues.
  • Prototyping and Testing: Develop prototypes or pilot programmes to test the feasibility and impact of proposed changes, designing and implementing testing methodologies to gather data and inform further decision-making.
  • Researching and Testing: Find and test existing or new tools for solving current challenges before implementation to ensure suitability.
  • Training and Support: Develop and deliver training programmes to educate staff on new processes, tools or methodologies resulting from changes, providing ongoing support to ensure effective adaptation.
  • Performance Monitoring and Evaluation: Establish Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and success metrics to evaluate the impact of implemented changes, regularly monitoring and reporting on performance to make necessary adjustments.
  • Feedback Loop Creation: Implement mechanisms for ongoing feedback from staff and stakeholders on the impact of changes, using feedback to make iterative improvements and foster a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Risk Management: Identify potential risks associated with innovation initiatives and develop strategies to mitigate these risks, preparing contingency plans for unforeseen challenges during implementation.
  • Communication: Develop and execute a communication plan to keep all stakeholders informed about the progress of change initiatives, ensuring transparent and open communication channels to address concerns and provide updates.
  • Cultural Alignment: Ensure that change initiatives align with the organisation’s culture and values, working to enhance or evolve the organisational culture as needed to support innovation.

Role responsibilities are not exhaustive, and you would be reasonably expected to take on wider tasks that are commensurate with the level of your role.

  • Knowledge, experience, and qualifications: A good knowledge of agile development, testing and prototyping, feedback loop creation and other relevant design methodologies, experience launching new programmes of work and trialling new approaches and projects, experience of managing projects that involve multiple stakeholders and teams, experience of facilitating meetings with colleagues from a range of different teams, experience of developing and delivering training.
