The closing date is 14 April 2026 (Part-Time, Fixed Term 12 months post 6 PA, job share available). The Periodontology Department is seeking 6PA Fixed Term Specialty Dentist(s) to join a dynamic, enthusiastic and forward-thinking team in central London. The successful individual(s) will supervise dental students, assist in consultant-led periodontology assessment clinics and contribute to a range of teaching and research activities.

Main duties of the job:

  • The post will be based in the Periodontology department, Floor 22 Guy's Tower, but the employee must be prepared to work at any additional or different location owned or served by the Trust on an ongoing or temporary basis.
  • Be dentally qualified.
  • Have experience in specialist oral health care for periodontology patients, ensuring patient participation in care decisions.
  • Participate in clinical and other service activities to maintain a high standard of patient care.
  • Play an active role in the clinical supervision, training and education of postgraduate and undergraduate students.
  • Ensure prompt attendance at agreed direct clinical care programmed activities.

Job responsibilities:

The role involves approximately 6 programmed activities per week, including direct clinical care, service development and administrative duties. The schedule will be negotiated annually with the Clinical Lead.

Person Specification:

Professional Qualifications:
  • Eligible for full UK GDC registration and a Licence to Practice.
  • On the GDC's specialist Register for Periodontology or within 6 months of eligibility for inclusion.
  • Teaching and/or training qualification.
Clinical Experience:
  • Experience in periodontal surgical procedures, including minor augmentation, mucogingival and regenerative techniques.
  • Experience in clinical supervision of surgical procedures.
  • Proficient in managing patients with advanced periodontal disease.
  • Experience presenting findings to patients, teams and learners with diplomacy and empathy.
  • Knowledge of the interface of periodontology with other disciplines.
Audit Management & IT:
  • Participation in clinical governance, audit, management and IT.
  • Knowledge of NHS policies and procedures.
  • Experience in virtual clinics using Attend Anywhere/Microsoft Teams.
Research, Teaching skill & experience:
  • Ability to critically appraise scientific literature and apply evidence-based practice.
  • Experience teaching and training undergraduates, postgraduates and junior medical staff.
  • Publications in refereed journals.
  • Research in periodontology or willingness to develop research projects.
  • Excellent communication, empathy, leadership and teamwork skills.
  • Experience in performance management, staff motivation and budgeting.

£61,542 to £99,216 a year per annum pro rata excluding LZ.
