Job Summary

Guy’s & St Thomas’ Hospitals offer an exciting opportunity for a Fellowship in General Cardiology. This post is suitable for someone who wishes to obtain advanced training in Cardiology. The successful candidate will be responsible for contributing to both the inpatient and outpatient care of patients, on a full-time basis, as part of a multidisciplinary team. The post will run for 6 months with the possibility for extension.

Main Duties of the Job

Depending on the candidate’s preferences, there will also be opportunities for experience in advanced imaging (cardiac MRI and CT, advanced echo and nuclear imaging). If suitably trained, the candidate will be offered the option to join the general cardiology SpR on-call rota alongside 15 other SpRs.

Job Responsibilities

The post-holder will have additional responsibilities in assisting with both inpatient and outpatient care for Cardiology patients. This includes participation in relevant outpatient clinics each week, with appropriate supervision and support from consultants. Additionally, the post-holder will contribute to the care of patients on the wards and manage referrals. Alternatively, the time could be used to develop an audit or research project. Other duties may be required or developed as needed, depending on the post-holder’s skills and the needs of the clinical service. This position offers an excellent opportunity to gain valuable experience, particularly in areas such as heart failure, Adult Congenital Heart Disease, Pulmonary Hypertension, and Intervention. It is well-suited for someone seeking to further their career either by applying for a consultant post with a special interest in general cardiology or by pursuing SpR (Specialist Registrar) training.

Qualifications

Essential

  1. MRCP completed or equivalent
  2. Full GMC Registration

Desirable

  1. Postgraduate research
  2. On GMC Specialist Register or within six months of attaining CCT

Clinical Experience

Essential

  1. Comprehensive experience in Cardiology

Knowledge and Skills

Essential

  1. Ability to work as an effective member of a multidisciplinary team.
  2. Competent in general medical procedures
  3. Good communication skills

Desirable

  1. Evidence of contribution to effective clinical audit

Research

Essential

  1. Understanding of the principles and applications of clinical research

Desirable

  1. Experience of clinical research

Teaching

Essential

  1. Experience of undergraduate teaching

Desirable

  1. Experience in teaching echocardiography
  2. Experience in postgraduate teaching

Management

Essential

  1. Evidence of understanding of the role of clinical management
