Junior Clinical Fellow in Cardiology and Simulation

Full Time - 40 hours per week plus on calls.

Fixed Term - 12 months.

Main duties of the job:

• This is a non‑training post aimed at an experienced SHO seeking to gain more clinical and practical experience prior to embarking on higher ST training.
• You will form part of a team of 17 SHOs, including Deanery Trainees.
• This post is 50% simulation and 50% JCF clinical rota.
• On a rotating basis, the post holders will be based 50% on the cardiology wards and the coronary care unit, led by the cardiology consultant and supported by the Specialist Registrar.
• On‑call duties are partial shift compliant with the New Junior Doctor Contract.
• You will spend the other 50% of your time helping create teaching and supporting the simulation lead in delivering training to SpR's.
• Regular consultant‑led teaching on specialist cardiology topics is provided every week and there are weekly multidisciplinary meetings for all subspecialties, providing excellent training opportunities.
• The rota is also designed with built‑in educational opportunities to attend outpatient clinics and cardiac catheterisation laboratories.

Job responsibilities:

• This is a non‑training post aimed at experienced ST1/2 level SHOs.
• You will join a team of 17 SHOs, including Deanery Trainees, and will have identical timetables and training opportunities.
• Clinical duties include management of cardiology inpatients in a tertiary centre setting, managing the coronary care unit, participating in coronary catheterisation labs and cardiology outpatient clinics.
• On a rotating basis, the post holder will be assigned to subspecialty teams on the cardiology wards and the coronary care unit, led by the Cardiology Consultant and supported by the Specialist Registrar.
• On‑call duties are partial shift compliant with the New Junior Doctor Contract and include receiving acute patients via the busy primary PCI service.
• Clinical responsibilities include participation in daily ward round and completion of ward round duties; prescribing cardiology medication; managing inter‑specialty referrals; admission clerking of inter‑hospital transfers; assessment of sick & deteriorating patients; and discharge documentation.
• As part of the simulation team, you will help create and assist in giving teaching sessions to SpR's on the latest simulation technology.
• Assist with clinics and support the Simulation Lead with other duties.
• We also have a number of available audit projects, educational roles and leadership opportunities to enhance your CV and provide engagement with the wider cardiology team.
• All SHOs will have an assigned educational supervisor.

Person Specification:

• Advanced Life Support certification.
• Eligible to work in the UK.
• MRCS part 1 or equivalent.

• Full GMC registration.
• Completed foundation programme / CREST (foundation equivalent).
• Working with simulation technology in a medical environment.

• Career progression consistent with professional circumstances.
• Familiarity with cardiology presentations.
• Experience in central lines / arterial lines.
• Competent in cannulation & ABGs.

• Has coordinated and delivered a teaching programme.
• Has regularly delivered clinical teaching.
• Has participated in some medical student / FY teaching.

• Completed 2 cycles of an audit.
• Has undertaken a clinical audit.
• Has undertaken clinical research / has a research publication.
