The South East Genomic Medicine Service (SE GMS) is seeking an experienced Project Manager with a particular focus on our communications and engagement functions. You will be responsible for overseeing the planning and implementation of projects and communications initiatives. The role will work across the GMS programmes to embed genomic testing in to routine care, including the roll out of new technologies to provide metagenomic testing for respiratory patients across a national network of NHS hospitals.
It is expected that by 2030, 50% of all healthcare interactions will involve genomics, so this is an exciting time to join this innovative healthcare field. You will have the opportunity to be at the forefront of change, creating meaningful impact with cutting-edge genomic technologies, working on both regional and national programmes of change.
This role will collaborate with stakeholders across organisations to support effective communications and engagement across national networks of service providers dedicated to adopting new technologies for the benefit of patients. You will have exceptional drive and take a flexible approach in responding to changing demands. You will have experience working with multidisciplinary teams and delivering innovative communications to deliver complex change across multiple organisations, as well as a track record in establishing collaborative relationships across organisational boundaries.
The Project Manager will design and deliver a series of communication campaigns and projects within the SE GMS and NHS Respiratory Metagenomics Network, supporting the effective delivery of strategic change across a multitude of organisations in the South East and nationally. The portfolio will include, but not be limited to, the expansion of our respiratory metagenomics programme to create a national network of up to 30 NHS sites, and the creation and delivery of innovative communications to support change across cancer and rare disease pathways in the GMS.
The post holder will take a lead on project and communication management, with responsibility for day-to-day delivery of activities, relationship management and impact evaluation. They will work collaboratively across NHS clinicians and managers and with internal and external stakeholders to ensure effective design of messaging, alignment of strategic and operational objectives, and reputation management in a complex environment of change.
Together, seven Genomic Medicine Services and 17 regional clinical genetics services across England form the national NHS Genomic Medicine Service.
The South East GMS covers South London, Kent, Surrey and Sussex and delivers standardised genomic testing pathways in accordance with the National Genomic Test Directory and supports the systematic embedding of genomic medicine in to routine care. We have a critical role in facilitating strong collaborations across disciplines and specialties, providing clinical leadership to enable the multi-professional workforce to use genomics safely, effectively and efficiently.
The post is hosted at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, who are also the national lead organisation for the NHS Respiratory Metagenomics Programme, funded by DSIT to establish a respiratory metagenomic pilot clinical service embedded in up to 30 NHS sites by 2028/29, improving outcomes for patients through accelerated diagnostics and personalised interventions.
