The role requires an accomplished nurse leader to transform a care home with genuine potential. The latest Care Inspectorate inspection graded the home as weak in wellbeing and leadership, identifying eight requirements for improvement. Important work is already underway, and by the time the new Home Manager joins, immediate requirements are expected to have been addressed.
Guthrie House is an 88-bed nursing and dementia care home in Liberton, Edinburgh, with strong foundations including a committed care team and established management structure. The next Home Manager will inherit a capable team and will have the opportunity to unite them behind a clear standard and direction.
The successful candidate will report to a Regional Director and work closely with experienced Regional Support Managers. Support will also come from operational, clinical, and quality colleagues.
Success will involve embedding improvements in clinical practice, care planning, infection prevention, staffing oversight, and quality assurance. The goal is to strengthen the home's reputation, grow occupancy responsibly, and create a service known for excellent care and strong leadership.
This opportunity suits a Registered Nurse with active NMC registration who has successfully managed within a nursing care-home environment and can evidence meaningful improvement. Candidates should have experience in translating action plans into practice, strengthening governance, and creating a culture of high standards.
Strong commercial judgement is important, including experience in increasing occupancy and managing performance while prioritising residents' needs. An SVQ Level 4 qualification in Management and Leadership, or the recognised equivalent, is essential.
