Senior Staff Software Engineer, Time Engineering Gusto 08 August 2025Join Gusto as a Senior Staff Software Engineer (Backend) on the Time engineering team and help shape the future of time management for businesses. You\βll design, build, and scale high-performance APIs that power time tracking and payroll integrations, impacting millions of users.Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and maintain RESTful APIs for time tracking, scheduling, and payroll integration.
- Collaborate with product managers and designers to define API specifications.
- Lead the technical design and implementation of new features.
- Mentor and guide junior engineers.
- Write clean, well-documented, and testable code.
- Participate in code reviews.
- Work with large-scale data stores and optimize for performance and reliability.
- Troubleshoot and resolve production issues.
Requirements:
- 12+ years of experience in software engineering, with a recent focus on backend development.
- 8+ years of experience building and maintaining backend systems.
- 3+ years of experience designing, developing, and deploying RESTful APIs.
- Strong understanding of API design principles.
- Experience with relational databases and data modeling.

Compensation:Our cash compensation amount for this role is targeted at CAD 200,000/yr to CAD 248,000/yr in Canada, $191,000/yr to $258,000/yr in most US remote locations, and $225,000/yr to $279,000/yr for San Francisco, Seattle & New York. Stock equity is additional.
