Gusto Construction has been delivering high-quality developments for over 30 years, with particular expertise in low-carbon homes, community-led developments and affordable housing. We provide an end-to-end service, taking projects from initial design and concept through construction to completion and aftercare. As one of the first UK construction companies to achieve B Corp certification, we are proud to be part of a growing movement of businesses committed to balancing people, planet and profit.
We are looking for an experienced and reliable Skilled Site Labourer to join our Construction team.
The Role
This is a varied, hands-on role suited to someone with good practical construction experience who is comfortable turning their hand to different tasks and supporting trades across our developments. Working closely with the Site Manager and wider site team, you will help keep projects moving by supporting trades throughout the construction process, from groundwork and early build stages through to finishing, snagging and completion. No two days will necessarily be the same. You could be preparing plots for trades, carrying out skilled labouring tasks, assisting with finishing works, moving materials or helping another area of the site to meet the construction programme. The role will also involve working across different Gusto Construction sites and driving company vehicles, including the tipper, when required.
Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
- Supporting all aspects of new-build housing construction, from groundwork through to completion.
- Working alongside and supporting bricklayers, joiners, roofers, plasterers, plumbers, electricians and decorators.
- Preparing plots and work areas ready for trades to begin.
- Carrying out skilled labouring tasks including measuring and cutting materials, installing insulation, temporary protection and assisting with finishing works.
- Safely and competently using appropriate hand and power tools.
- Loading, unloading and distributing building materials around site.
- Carrying out snagging, minor repairs and finishing tasks.
- Assisting with internal sealing and other works required to support property airtightness.
- Supporting deliveries, waste management and the organisation of site storage areas.
- Maintaining clean, organised and safe plots and communal working areas.
- Working flexibly across the site to provide additional support wherever it is needed.
- Following all Health & Safety requirements, company procedures and site rules.
- Working as part of the wider site team to achieve build programmes and Gusto's quality standards.
What We're Looking For
This isn't a role where you will simply be carrying materials or keeping the site tidy. We are looking for someone with practical construction skills and previous site experience who can work independently when required, use their initiative appropriately and confidently support different trades. You will need to be reliable, flexible and willing to get involved wherever your skills are needed.
Essential:
- Previous construction site experience.
- Experience within a specific construction trade.
- CSCS Card or equivalent.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Good practical construction knowledge.
- Relevant Health & Safety awareness.
- Ability to work unsupervised and use your initiative appropriately.
- Ability to follow instructions accurately and manage a varied workload.
- A reliable, trustworthy and flexible approach.
- Good communication skills and a strong team ethic.
Desirable:
- Multi-trade experience or background.
- Full FLT licence.
- Training or certification for other site machinery.
Why Join Gusto?
Joining Gusto Construction means becoming part of an established construction business with more than 30 years' experience and a genuine commitment to building responsibly. We are also on an exciting journey towards employee ownership, giving our people an increasingly important voice in the future direction and success of the business. If you're an experienced site operative who takes pride in doing a good job, enjoys variety and is happy to get stuck in and support the wider team, we'd like to hear from you.
Package Details:
- £14.00 per hour, paid weekly on each Friday.
- You will be contracted to work 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Hours between 7.30 - 5pm, depending on site requirements and time of year (due to lighting).
