We are now recruiting a Sales Director to lead our new business commercial growth strategy, build and develop our sales capability, and play a key role on our operational board.
Role Purpose
The Sales Director will take ownership of Guru’s overall new business sales performance and development of the sales function. This includes:
- Mentoring and developing a small team of sales people
- Growing the team by a further 2–4 people in 2026
- Designing and executing commercial strategies that drive profitable growth
- Taking responsibility for commercials, pricing structure, and margin protection
- Delivering on department KPIs and targets
- Reporting directly into the Managing Director and CEO as part of the operational board
This is a hands-on leadership position for someone who enjoys growing a business, developing talent while remaining close to customers, commercial discussions, and strategic decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead, manage and mentor a small sales team, providing coaching, structure, and performance development
- Create individual development plans, improve sales capability, and support skill-building in solution selling
- Implement a strong performance culture with clear targets and KPIs achieved consistently in line with the overall businesses targets
- Recruit 2–4 new team members in 2026 to expand sales reach and capacity
- Build a positive, accountable environment where people are motivated to grow
Sales & Commercial Strategy
- Own Guru’s sales strategy across all business units (Mobiles, Connectivity, IT, Security, Renewables)
- Develop and implement commercial plans aligned with the company’s growth targets
- Manage commercials, including pricing models, margins, forecasting, and strategic deal structuring
- Support complex deal negotiation with key customers and partners
- Monitor pipeline health and ensure reporting accuracy
Board & Business Leadership
- Act as a member of the operational board, contributing to business strategy and decision-making in the overall business
- Provide weekly and monthly reporting on all departmental aspects to the Managing Director and CEO
- Closely collaborate with Operations, Marketing and Customer Service to align delivery and commercial strategy
- Share market intelligence and customer insight to influence business direction
Client Engagement & Market Development
- Support major customer conversations and strategic relationships in new business
- Identify new market opportunities and routes to market
- Promote Guru’s values and positioning as a trusted technology partner
Experience & Capabilities
Essential
- Proven experience in B2B sales leadership, ideally within telecoms, IT solutions, MSP, connectivity or technology services
- Demonstrable experience mentoring, coaching, and developing sales talent
- A track record of building and scaling small teams (including role aspects of recruitment and onboarding staff and customers)
- Strong commercial understanding — pricing, margin management, forecasting, deal structuring
- Excellent communicator with strong influencing and negotiation skills
- Comfortable operating at board level while staying hands-on with the team
- Analytical mindset with experience using CRM and pipeline tools
Desirable
- Knowledge of the UK SME market
- Experience delivering bundled or multi-service technology solutions
- Existing industry relationships or networks
Working Style & Requirements
Office-based time in Northampton is essential to support and develop the team — you will lead and mentor predominantly in-person. Hybrid working is available and flexibility is supported, particularly for field-based client engagement. UK travel is occasionally required each week for customer meetings.
