About the role

Guru devices collect a billion measurements a month on the performance of complex district wide heat networks and per property heat apparatus, taking this wealth of data to drive industry leading analytics and insights to allow operators to reduce carbon emissions and user energy bills. This role is responsible for the technical delivery of our IoT devices.
You will work on the design of our next generation of IoT devices that work in conjunction with our cloud based applications. This role is ideal for an experienced Intermediate level Hardware Engineer looking to take the next step in their career, or for candidates who have recently become a Senior Hardware Engineer. You will be working closely with Embedded Software Engineers, Engineering leadership, Product Managers and Manufacturing professionals with exposure to the full product & design lifecycle from specification & architecture through to release & support.
You will work with the team to deliver high quality IoT devices which meet functionality, cost, regulatory and reliability targets, and you will be closely involved with real world deployments which interoperate with a range of 3rd party hardware devices.
You will work in our Product & Engineering team of 12 and participate in the specification of our devices, then implementing the device hardware architecture, detailed circuit design and PCB layout, followed by prototype debug and verification, regulatory approvals and then introduction to production (including writing manufacturing test software solutions). The role will also allow writing of targeted modules of embedded firmware at certain times when time permits.
Required experience
- A hardware engineer with an interest in IoT device design
- 4+ years of professional hardware device development experience
- Mandatory experience: Embedded microcontroller design, digital design, analogue design, wired & wireless comms interface design, schematic design, PCB layout, prototype debug, achieving EMC and safety regulatory compliance, working with Manufacturing partners, Manufacturing Test solutions.
- Strongly desired experience: Software experience in Python and C, LINUX and board bring-up software
- Desired Experience: KiCad design package
- Ideally with a 1st/2:1 from a top tier university
- Experience of IoT device design
- Excellent interpersonal and presentational skills, with the ability to communicate clearly in written and spoken English.
- Strong empathy and the capacity to react calmly and efficiently in a scale-up environment.
