We have a great opportunity to join our team working directly for our General Manager of Marine & Industrial & Executive Committee Member along with a wide range of other senior leaders across the business. The role will work with the Marine & Industrial team and will be based at our facility in Newport, Isle of Wight, UK which is home to our Resins & Adhesives Manufacturing along with global Marine & Industrial team members and colleagues from BU Wind and Corporate.

Purpose of the Function

To support the development and execution of business growth strategies by analysing markets, identifying opportunities, and contributing to the commercial pipeline. The role is centered around hands‑on execution, with a primary focus on delivering outputs rather than coordinating activities.

Description of the Role

The Junior Business Developer – Strategy & Commercial will support the Marine & Industrial growth objectives by assisting in the development and execution of commercial strategies, identifying new business opportunities, and contributing to market and financial analysis. The role acts as a bridge between strategy, sales, and commercial operations, helping to turn insights into actionable business initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategy & Business Partnering
    • Act as a trusted partner to the BU General Manager and Snr Management team supporting decision‑making
    • Translate strategic priorities into clear business initiatives and execution plans.
    • Provide structured input in BU Marine & Industrial strategy, growth opportunities and investments.
  • Market & Opportunity Analysis
    • Analyse market trends, customer segments and competitor activity
    • Build fact‑based market transparency (size, growth, segmentation)
    • Identify new business opportunities, growth levels and risks
    • Support evaluation of new markets, products or strategic initiatives.
  • Business Cases & Financial Models
    • Build robust financial models and business cases for new initiatives
  • Communication & Insight Generation
    • Create clear, decision‑ready, structured business cases and investment rationales for presenting to leadership
    • Translate complex data into simple, actionable insights
    • Support internal discussions with fact‑based analysis.

Skills & Experience

  • 2‑5 Years experience in either top or mid‑tier consulting or business development/strategy in an industrial environment.
  • Exposure to marine, manufacturing, materials or engineering driven industries is advantageous.
  • This role is centered on hands‑on task execution, with a primary focus on delivery outputs rather than coordinating activities.
  • Educated to degree level (ideally within engineering and business)
  • Master in Business Administration (desirable)
  • Highly analytical and strong with data interpretation and ability to break down complex problems.
  • Structured thinker with problem‑solving mindset.
  • Strong communication, influencing and presentation skills.
  • Comfortable working with senior stakeholders and able to challenge as well as support them.
  • Commercially minded and understands business drivers, not just numbers.
