ABOUT THE JOB
Gunzilla Games is seeking a Senior Technical Artist – Shaders to join our OTG (Off The Grid) team, which is developing an all-new AAA Extraction Battle Royale shooter, currently available in Early Access on PlayStation®5, Xbox® Series X|S, and PC.
This position focuses on developing, maintaining, and optimising advanced shader and material systems in Unreal Engine to achieve cutting‑edge visual quality and performance across platforms.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design, implement, and optimize shader networks, Master Materials, and Material Functions in Unreal Engine
- Collaborate with rendering engineers, lighting artists, and environment artists to achieve consistent, high‑quality visuals
- Create shader‑based solutions for materials such as terrain blending, foliage, surfaces, and character rendering
- Prototype and develop new shading techniques aligned with the game’s visual direction
- Analyze GPU and rendering performance, identifying and addressing material‑related bottlenecks
- Work with the Tech Art and Tools teams to build efficient, user‑friendly workflows for artists
- Maintain documentation and ensure shader standards are applied across all art assets
- Stay up to date on real‑time rendering innovations and integrate new techniques where applicable
- Mentor other artists and provide guidance on material creation best practices.
REQUIREMENTS
- Strong experience creating and optimizing shaders and materials in Unreal Engine or similar real‑time engines
- In‑depth understanding of PBR workflows, lighting models, and surface shading
- Proficiency with Unreal Engine’s Material Editor, HLSL, and shader graph systems.
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills; comfortable working with multiple departments
- Previously shipped at least one AAA title or comparable real‑time project
