To support the learning, development, health, and wellbeing of children aged 0–5 years by providing high-quality, nurturing, and responsive care in line with Realising the Ambition, Curriculum for Excellence (Early Level), and GIRFEC principles. The post holder will help create a safe, inclusive, and stimulating environment where children are supported to become confident individuals, successful learners, responsible citizens, and effective contributors.
Key Responsibilities
- Supporting Children’s Learning & Development
- Support high-quality play and learning experiences that reflect Realising the Ambition and the Early Level of Curriculum for Excellence.
- Respond to children’s interests and developmental needs using play-based, child-led approaches.
- Observe, assess, and contribute to planning for children’s learning and development.
- Support children’s emotional wellbeing and attachment through warm, responsive interactions.
- Promote inclusive practice and support children with additional support needs.
- Observe and implement the policies and procedures of our nursery always.
- Adhere and follow the nursery improvement plan.
- Health, Wellbeing & Care
- Meet children’s care needs including feeding, toileting, changing, rest, and comfort in a respectful and nurturing manner.
- Promote children’s health, wellbeing, and independence.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming environment that supports children’s wellbeing.
- Follow infection control, hygiene, and health and safety procedures at all times.
- Safeguarding & GIRFEC
- Uphold the principles of GIRFEC, ensuring children are safe, healthy, achieving, nurtured, active, respected, responsible, and included.
- Follow child protection and safeguarding procedures and report concerns appropriately.
- Maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.
- Be receptive and intuitive for potential home environment issues or changes that may involve child protection issues and collaborate with the nursery and other agencies as appropriate.
- Ensure all aspects of security for children within the nursery environment at all times and make sure all exits and entrances are secure.
- Working with Families & Others
- Build positive, respectful relationships with parents and carers.
- Share information about children’s experiences, learning, and wellbeing.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues and, where appropriate, external agencies.
- Professional Practice & Teamwork
- Work effectively as part of a team to deliver high-quality early learning and childcare.
- Contribute to self-evaluation and continuous improvement.
- Attend training and engage in ongoing professional learning.
- Follow all policies, procedures, and Care Inspectorate requirements.
