To support the learning, development, health, and wellbeing of children aged 0–5 years by providing high-quality, nurturing, and responsive care in line with Realising the Ambition, Curriculum for Excellence (Early Level), and GIRFEC principles. The post holder will help create a safe, inclusive, and stimulating environment where children are supported to become confident individuals, successful learners, responsible citizens, and effective contributors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting Children’s Learning & Development
    • Support high-quality play and learning experiences that reflect Realising the Ambition and the Early Level of Curriculum for Excellence.
    • Respond to children’s interests and developmental needs using play-based, child-led approaches.
    • Observe, assess, and contribute to planning for children’s learning and development.
    • Support children’s emotional wellbeing and attachment through warm, responsive interactions.
    • Promote inclusive practice and support children with additional support needs.
    • Observe and implement the policies and procedures of our nursery always.
    • Adhere and follow the nursery improvement plan.
  • Health, Wellbeing & Care
    • Meet children’s care needs including feeding, toileting, changing, rest, and comfort in a respectful and nurturing manner.
    • Promote children’s health, wellbeing, and independence.
    • Maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming environment that supports children’s wellbeing.
    • Follow infection control, hygiene, and health and safety procedures at all times.
  • Safeguarding & GIRFEC
    • Uphold the principles of GIRFEC, ensuring children are safe, healthy, achieving, nurtured, active, respected, responsible, and included.
    • Follow child protection and safeguarding procedures and report concerns appropriately.
    • Maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.
    • Be receptive and intuitive for potential home environment issues or changes that may involve child protection issues and collaborate with the nursery and other agencies as appropriate.
    • Ensure all aspects of security for children within the nursery environment at all times and make sure all exits and entrances are secure.
  • Working with Families & Others
    • Build positive, respectful relationships with parents and carers.
    • Share information about children’s experiences, learning, and wellbeing.
    • Work collaboratively with colleagues and, where appropriate, external agencies.
  • Professional Practice & Teamwork
    • Work effectively as part of a team to deliver high-quality early learning and childcare.
    • Contribute to self-evaluation and continuous improvement.
    • Attend training and engage in ongoing professional learning.
    • Follow all policies, procedures, and Care Inspectorate requirements.
