About the Role
We are seeking caring and dedicated Speech & Language Support Assistants to join educational settings in Aylesbury from September 2026 on a temp-to-perm basis, with the opportunity to secure a permanent position. This role is ideal for individuals looking to build long-term experience while supporting pupils with speech, language, and communication needs (SLCN).
You may be supporting children with speech and language delays, Developmental Language Disorder (DLD), Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD, or other additional learning needs in primary, secondary, or specialist provisions.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 and small group support focused on speech, language, and communication development.
- Support pupils in accessing the curriculum through adapted communication strategies.
- Assist the class teacher and Speech & Language Therapists in delivering targeted interventions.
- Encourage expressive and receptive language development in a structured and supportive manner.
- Help pupils develop confidence in social communication and interaction.
- Create a safe, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment.
- Support with personal care where required (depending on setting).
Requirements
- Experience working with children with speech and language needs or SEN (formal or informal).
- A patient, nurturing, and supportive approach.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to follow speech and language programmes and intervention plans.
- Flexibility to work across a range of SEN and specialist settings.
- Relevant qualifications or training in speech and language support are desirable but not essential.
