Education And Experience Requirements
- An occupational health and safety and environmental degree or equivalent, supported by specific training to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
- NEBOSH Certificate.
- Ability to operate personal computers, experience with Microsoft Windows/Windows NT and Microsoft Office Products (Word and Excel).
- Extensive experience and knowledge of ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001 and Environmental, Health and Safety Legislation.
Position Purpose
Provide full‑time environmental health and safety support to the business and ensure that all practices are in compliance with the Company and UK regulatory requirements. Support the development and coordination of ISO 14001 Environmental and OHSAS 18001 Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems.
Job Description – Essential Functions
- Responsible for development, implementation, maintenance and continuous improvement of Environmental, Health and Safety management systems.
- Provide daily guidance and direction in EHS programs at the employee/supervisor level to ensure a common and effective approach.
- Advise line management of health, safety and environmental matters and manage this process to ensure advice is incorporated into day‑to‑day processes and operations.
- Assist in identifying environmental aspects and safety hazards, conduct risk assessments and develop and implement effective control measures to manage the risks.
- Facilitate all forms of risk assessment (e.g. general, manual handling, COSHH, fire prevention) and act as a final authority where specialist response is required.
- Maintain and update SOPs for all safe work practices and equipment and utilize them in day‑to‑day training.
- Facilitate training on Environmental, Health and Safety topics and improvement processes, including employee orientations, emergency response training and coordination of risk‑specific training programs.
- Provide advice, assist, and audit operations to ensure that effective EHS is implemented and working.
- Develop an EHS Communication Strategy for all levels of staff, including written information, toolbox talks and management briefs.
- Ensure inspections by regulatory agencies and accreditation bodies are coordinated and deficiencies are minimized and corrected.
- Coordinate with site and corporate leadership on EHS‑related activities.
- Maintain all records and documentation associated with the EHS Management System and regulatory requirements.
- Assist with maintaining the Business Continuity and Emergency Response Plans & Procedures.
- Review accidents and incidents and manage internal audits, reporting and corrective/preventive actions.
- Conduct occupational health and safety related surveys.
- Produce and coordinate the yearly EHS action plan and longer‑term EHS roadmap.
- Monitor the site ‘permit‑to‑work’ and ‘control of contractors’ systems to ensure compliance with Company standards and regulatory requirements.
Additional Functions
- Travel domestically and/or internationally as required.
Other Requirements
- Must be capable of lifting up to 22.5 kg.
