With a strong track record in engineering and infrastructure, we are expanding our renewable energy portfolio in UK and EU markets and seeking a strategic legal expert to support this growth. This is an exciting opportunity to join the team as an Inhouse Lawyer taking ownership of related to our renewable energy projects in the UK and Europe.
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing all legal aspects of project development, including:
- Building permits
- Planning consents
- Grid connection agreements
- Project due diligence
- M&A documentation
The role involves working closely with external legal counsel while building an in-house legal function to support business objectives and mitigate risks. The role covers the entire target market of the business, mainly UK and EU jurisdictions.
What you’ll be doing:
- Project Development Legal Support: Oversee legal processes related to building permits, planning consents, and grid connection agreements for renewable energy projects. Manage due diligence processes for project acquisitions at RtB and pre-RtB level.
- M&A and Financing: Lead legal negotiations and SPA documentation for acquisitions. Draft, review, and negotiate complex commercial contracts, including power purchase agreements (PPAs) and financing agreements.
- Compliance and Regulatory: Ensure compliance with UK and European energy sector regulations, environmental laws, and corporate governance standards. Keep the business informed of changes in legislation and advise on strategic adjustments.
- Risk Management: Identify, assess, and mitigate legal risks across all business activities. Develop and implement policies and processes to protect the company’s interests.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with external legal advisors, regulators, and government bodies.
What you’ll need:
- 3+ post graduate experience as a lawyer in renewable energy.
- Experience with building permits, planning consents, grid connection, due diligence process and M&A documentation.
- Proven ability to manage and coordinate external legal counsel.
- Strong negotiation skills and commercial acumen.
- Ability to work independently and strategically within a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to develop and manage a legal team as per the evolution of the business.
Nice to Have:
- Experience in cross-border transactions.
- Familiarity with private equity or venture capital deals.
- Experience working with financial advisors or investment banks.
- Experience in project finance would be highly desirable.
