This is a private educator position for mentoring full-time a 9th grade student studying a US-school curriculum privately in person, in West London, UK.

About Us

Guidewell Global is an educational consultancy that provides expert advice and bespoke support to families navigating complex educational journeys. We partner with families to create tailored educational plans, offering services that include school placement, curriculum design, and dedicated educational support. Our approach focuses on the individual needs of each student to ensure long-term academic and personal success on a global scale.

We are guided by a mission to deliver transformational educational experiences that support students as whole people. The core values that shape this mission and our work together as colleagues are: student-centered, empathetic, expert practitioners, and growth-oriented.

Job Summary (The Mission)

The Private Educator will serve as a lead practitioner within a bespoke "Learning Studio" in West London. This role may be configured as a comprehensive full-time lead or as a part-time subject-specific lead (Humanities/Arts or STEM/Maths) operating within a co-leadership model. The mission of the Studio is to establish a clear cognitive boundary between school and home by operating out of a neutral, professional office space. In this environment, you will rebuild the student's academic confidence through a "competency-based backfill" of 9th-grade requirements, utilising a US-based School of Record to ensure an accredited transcript for future re-matriculation.

Basic Logistics

  • Location: A dedicated space in West London
  • Hours: This is a full-time role, largely following a school-day schedule, but which will depend on the needs and availability of the student. Flexibility will be required for occasional family meetings and evening enrichment as well as potential travelling requests made with advanced notice.
  • Term: March 2026 through June 2026; renewal decision anticipated by May for the academic year.

Duties & Expectations (The "What")

  • Design (or adapt and follow a curriculum of a school of record) and deliver a bespoke, interest-led curriculum that meets US School of Record accreditation standards.
  • Monitor the student's emotional regulation, identifying signs of "internalised" stress or masking to prevent cognitive shutdown.
  • Implement teaching strategies that prioritise emotional regulation as the prerequisite for cognitive output, specifically addressing the student's ruminating-type OCD and anxiety.
  • Develop multi-sensory scaffolding for STEM subjects, specifically addressing diagnosed dyscalculia through a competency-based approach rather than a traditional lecture model.
  • Integrate the student's interest in music and vocals into the academic curriculum to support engagement and satisfy credit requirements through creative expression.
  • Lead afternoon enrichment activities throughout London, including visits to cultural, musical, and literary institutions.
  • Liaise with the student's London-based agreed stakeholders to align academic pressure with therapeutic goals.
  • Advise parents on academic progress and non-academic development, acting as a primary consultant for the student's success.
  • Organise the Learning Studio as a neutral, professional space that facilitates a clear boundary between home and school.

About You (The DNA/Culture Fit)

  • The Resilient Anchor: You lead with high emotional intelligence and the personal resilience to navigate a role that is deeply rewarding yet challenging. You possess a deep-seated growth mindset, viewing academic or behavioural pivots as opportunities for refinement rather than setbacks, and you model this calm, persistent approach for the student.
  • The Attuned Observer: You possess the ability to read the room and detect subtle shifts in a student's internal state, identifying signs of masking or stress to proactively adjust the academic pace before a shutdown occurs.
  • The Intellectual Mentor: You have the subject matter expertise to engage a gifted mind and the creativity to weave a student's passions—particularly music and literature—into a rigorous, competency-based academic framework.
  • The Professional Partner: You maintain high standards of executive functioning and professional boundaries. You thrive in a "Mirroring" model, collaborating seamlessly with a co-lead to ensure a consistent, unified experience for both the student and the family.

Requirements (The Experience/Skills)

  • 5+ years of teaching or tutoring experience, specifically with gifted or neurodivergent students (experience with dyscalculia and anxiety is a significant plus).
  • Expertise in pedagogical scaffolding for US High School subjects, with a specific focus on navigating dyscalculia in Mathematics (foundational and secondary) while leveraging high-verbal ability in Humanities.
  • Strong grasp of relevant and standard academic subjects, anticipated to be: 9th/10th grade English, Geometry, Biology, and History.
  • Exceptional organisational and communication skills, with the ability to manage complex administrative tasks autonomously.
  • Availability to work in-person in West London, 5 days per week.
  • Legal right to work in the UK.
  • Bachelor's degree from a prestigious global university.
  • Personal interest or background in music (guitar/vocals) is highly desirable for student rapport.

Compensation & Legal

  • Annual Salary: £80,000 - £120,000 annually, depending on experience and ability to meet all requirements and preferences of the role.
  • Semester Completion Payments: Additional semester completion incentive payments awarded at the end of each academic semester.
  • Benefits: Access to all Guidewell Global benefits, including private medical insurance, pension contributions, and a potential relocation stipend.
