Overview
A unique opportunity to join a purpose-led charity as their new Head of Finance. Based near Maidstone, this organisation is dedicated to their cause — and they\’re looking for a proactive finance professional who can lead with clarity, confidence, and care.
You\’ll take full ownership of the charity\’s finance function, supporting both day-to-day financial operations and longer-term strategic planning. This is a role where your financial expertise will directly contribute to meaningful global efforts.
Key responsibilities
- Lead all financial operations for the charity, including accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting.
- Prepare management accounts, financial statements, and reports for the CEO, Board of Trustees, and stakeholders.
- Oversee grant funding and large-scale donations, ensuring accurate recording and compliance.
- Support the charity\’s leadership team with long-term financial planning and sustainability modelling.
- Manage and develop financial systems and processes, working closely with internal teams and external partners.
- Ensure full compliance with charity finance regulations, including HMRC and Charity Commission requirements.
- Collaborate with fundraising, operations, and conservation teams to provide financial insight and support decision-making.
- Lead on annual audits and liaise with auditors and accountants.
- Maintain and update finance policies, ensuring best practice across the organisation.
Skills and experience required
- Strong experience in finance or accountancy roles, ideally with exposure to charity or not-for-profit sectors.
- Qualified or part-qualified accountant (e.g. ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent), or qualified by experience.
- Ability to work independently, manage a small finance team, and communicate clearly with non-finance colleagues.
- Excellent understanding of management accounts, reporting, budgeting, and cash flow forecasting.
- Experience using Sage (or similar accounting software) is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of charity finance regulations, Gift Aid, and grant funding would be a bonus.
