Overview
A unique opportunity to join a purpose-led charity as their new Head of Finance. Based near Maidstone, this organisation is dedicated to their cause — and they\’re looking for a proactive finance professional who can lead with clarity, confidence, and care.

You\’ll take full ownership of the charity\’s finance function, supporting both day-to-day financial operations and longer-term strategic planning. This is a role where your financial expertise will directly contribute to meaningful global efforts.

Key responsibilities

1. Lead all financial operations for the charity, including accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting.
2. Prepare management accounts, financial statements, and reports for the CEO, Board of Trustees, and stakeholders.
3. Oversee grant funding and large-scale donations, ensuring accurate recording and compliance.
4. Support the charity\’s leadership team with long-term financial planning and sustainability modelling.
5. Manage and develop financial systems and processes, working closely with internal teams and external partners.
6. Ensure full compliance with charity finance regulations, including HMRC and Charity Commission requirements.
7. Collaborate with fundraising, operations, and conservation teams to provide financial insight and support decision-making.
8. Lead on annual audits and liaise with auditors and accountants.
9. Maintain and update finance policies, ensuring best practice across the organisation.

Skills and experience required

1. Strong experience in finance or accountancy roles, ideally with exposure to charity or not-for-profit sectors.
2. Qualified or part-qualified accountant (e.g. ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent), or qualified by experience.
3. Ability to work independently, manage a small finance team, and communicate clearly with non-finance colleagues.
4. Excellent understanding of management accounts, reporting, budgeting, and cash flow forecasting.
5. Experience using Sage (or similar accounting software) is highly desirable.
6. Knowledge of charity finance regulations, Gift Aid, and grant funding would be a bonus.
7. Organised, proactive, and motivated by purpose-led work.
