Are you an experienced accounting professional looking to make a meaningful impact? Join our Finance team as a 12-month, Full-time Assistant Accountant, where you will play a vital role in ensuring accurate, timely financial information that supports the organisation’s mission.

In this role, you will undertake a wide range of accounting activities—including accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, fixed assets, and month-end duties. You’ll support the Financial Controller and broader Finance team to maintain high-quality financial records, deliver accurate reporting, and ensure smooth day-to-day financial operations.

Key Accountabilities
  • Accounts Payable: Manage the end-to-end Accounts Payable cycle. Process supplier invoices, staff/volunteer/puppy raiser claims, and maintain AP master files in Xero. Monitor the AP inbox daily and process invoices/claims via Receipt Bank/Xero. Ensure invoices and expenses are authorised in line with delegations. Assist staff with payable enquiries. Reconcile monthly supplier statements. Review and upload monthly credit card transactions from ANZ Expense Manager.
  • Accounts Receivable: Manage the full Accounts Receivable cycle, including donations, bequests, NDIS income, and product sales. Reconcile AR accounts monthly. Process manual AR invoices as required.
  • Other responsibilities: Perform daily bank reconciliations in Xero. Follow up with business units to resolve banking queries promptly. Prepare general ledger journals, accruals, and prepayments. Maintain reconciliation schedules and support month-end closure. Perform document management and archiving. Produce P&L and other financial reports as required. Assist with balance sheet reconciliations and BAS returns. Complete other reasonable tasks as directed by the Financial Controller or CFO.
Required Skills & Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in an accounts role.
  • Strong understanding of data analysis and reconciliation procedures.
  • High accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Excellent administrative and data entry skills.
  • Strong communication skills—both written and verbal.
  • Experience with Xero strongly regarded.
  • High integrity, initiative, and a collaborative team mindset.
  • Highly organised with the ability to multitask.

>
