Our client, a trusted partner to the UK Ministry of Defence, is seeking a Principal Thermal Engineer to join the Mechanical Analysis Group in Stevenage. This team of over 30 engineers works across a diverse range of advanced military systems. In this role, you will be part of an internationally recognised organisation and play a pivotal role in ensuring products meet critical thermal performance requirements. Your expertise will help deliver cutting-edge solutions that support the UK’s defence capabilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Take ownership of delivering packages of thermal analysis work.
- Provide mechanical analysis support to develop designs and deliver thermal performance evidence.
- Deliver analysis evidence in clear reports with firm conclusion statements.
- Participate in team meetings and design reviews.
- Manage workload against time schedules and report progress regularly to stakeholders.
- Responsible for dealing and collaborating with project stakeholders (internal & external).
What do you need?
- Degree qualified in a STEM subject.
- Proven ability to carry out thermal analysis through the application of hand calculations and Finite Element methods (e.g., ANSYS etc.).
- Experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Carrying out studies to determine the effects of conduction, convection, and radiation on the thermal response of systems.
- Thermal analysis of electronics.
- Application of MATLAB-Simulink to deliver thermal studies.
- Use of CFD to assess thermal behaviour.
- Scripting using MATLAB or Python.
Security Clearance: British Citizen or a Dual UK national with British citizenship. Restrictions and/or limitations relating to nationality and/or rights to work may apply. As a minimum and after offer stage, all successful candidates will need to undergo HMG Basic Personnel Security Standard checks (BPSS), which are managed by our client's Security Team.
