The Customs Manager position focuses on ensuring all import and export activities comply with HMRC’s customs regulations and international trade requirements working in a manufacturing environment. The individual will oversee customs compliance processes, manage relationships with customs brokers, maintain tariff classification (HTS) data, conduct audits, and resolve customs-related issues to minimise risk and ensure smooth global trade operations.
The role will be responsible for the following:
- Leading end-to-end import/export compliance (Importer of Record, classification, origin, valuation, preferential programmes)
- Managing and overseeing customs brokers, including setting and tracking KPIs (e.g. classification accuracy, entry processes, vendor documentation, post-entry amendments)
- Maintaining the HTS database and managing customs issues and escalations with brokers
- Running pre- and post-audits of import documentation
- Driving process improvements and supporting SOPs
- Supporting the implementation and enhancement of trade compliance software and tools
- Supporting the integration of trade policies and procedures for M&A and acquired entities
