Interview process: One-stage virtual interview

Turn early-stage engineering concepts into practical mechanical designs for one of the world's leading aerospace organisations. This is an excellent opportunity to take ownership of early-stage 3D CAD modelling, kinematic assessments and spatial integration activities within a technically challenging aerospace environment.

You will work closely with senior engineers and cross-functional teams to transform research concepts into structured mechanical design layouts. The role offers exposure to active technology research projects, mechanical and structural design, and the development of practical design principles for future engineering programmes.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Creating and developing early-stage 3D CAD models and mechanical design layouts
  • Leading spatial packaging, envelope and component allocation studies
  • Carrying out kinematic assessments and developing digital mock-ups
  • Supporting active research and development projects with initial trade-off and feasibility assessments
  • Producing parametric 3D models, basic assembly structures and supporting technical documentation
  • Translating broad project requirements into clear layout options and practical design solutions
  • Supporting the definition and application of design principles, standards and best practice
  • Working with testing, manufacturing and systems teams to resolve interface and geometric conflicts
  • Evaluating technical and spatial trade-offs where design constraints compete
  • Presenting CAD concepts, design recommendations and technical updates to relevant stakeholders

What We're Looking For

Essential

  • Three to five years' hands-on experience using major parametric 3D CAD software
  • CATIA or 3DX design experience
  • Mechanical and structural design experience
  • A practical understanding of kinematics and digital mock-ups
  • Experience of spatial integration, interface management and packaging components within restricted geometric envelopes
  • Strong engineering fundamentals, including mechanics, materials, tolerance stack-ups and manufacturing constraints
  • Experience converting initial requirements or research concepts into structured 3D layout options
  • The ability to take a concept from initial brief through to a completed 3D study with minimal supervision
  • A structured approach to solving technical problems and evaluating design trade-offs
  • Clear communication skills, with the ability to present technical concepts to project stakeholders

Desirable

  • Previous experience within aerospace engineering or landing gear design
  • Experience gained in automotive or another complex engineering product-design environment
  • Exposure to research and development or early-stage concept design activities
  • Experience collaborating with manufacturing, testing and systems engineering teams
  • Practical industry experience is valued for this position, with relevant design capability considered more important than holding a specific qualification.

Why Join?

  • Work on technically challenging landing gear and aerospace design activities
  • Contribute to early-stage research, concept development and engineering feasibility studies
  • Broaden your experience across CAD, kinematics, structural design and spatial integration
  • Collaborate with experienced engineering, manufacturing, testing and systems specialists
  • Develop practical design standards and approaches that can support future engineering work
  • Benefit from a long-term contract with the possibility of extension
  • Access a hybrid working arrangement and a 4.5-day working week
