WE ARE LOOKING FOR AFC - AUTOMATION FLOW CONTROLLERS TO WORK ON MORNING SHIFT 6AM-2PM. Inside of the John Lewis Distribution Centre at Magna Park 1 & 2, there are miles and miles of conveyors, called the Automation, on which containers, called totes and cartons, travel or flow. At any point during their journey there's a possibility for the container totes to become stuck, or crash. It is the role of the AFC: Automation Flow Controller to clear those crashes, report the issues and ensure a continuous flow of containers.

Ideal qualities of an AFC:

  • Physicality: You should be prepared to climb ladders, go up and down lots of stairs and walk between 14,000 and 32,000 steps in a day.
  • Mentality: You must be able to manage your own frustration and deal with a fair amount of pressure.
  • Technicality: Develop a working understanding of how the Automation functions, what the parts are called and how to report problems to control room.
  • Communication: As an AFC, you need to be able to clearly communicate over the radio.
  • Autonomy: An ability to self-govern. AFC's don’t always have direct oversight, you need to be able to put yourself to task.
  • Awareness: Being able to spread your perception over a large area, spot small changes in flow and be aware of potential risks.
  • A sense of urgency: The role of AFC is critical to the productivity of the operation. It is important both, physically and visually, that AFC's respond with haste.

Following is a list of duties that is expected of an AFC:

  • Clear crashes
  • Listen and respond to requests over the radio
  • Report on crashes and faults
  • Error handle various machinery
  • Monitor and report on flow
  • Housekeeping

Shift Pattern/Schedule:

  • 8-hour shift
  • Work any 5 days out of 7
  • Zero Hours Contract
  • 3 different shifts available:
    • AM: 6AM to 2PM - £13.05
    • PM: 2PM to 10PM - £15.80
    • Nights: 10PM to 6AM - £16.80
