About the Role
We are seeking a highly organised and detail-oriented Legal Support Officer to provide specialist administrative and legal support to lawyers within the Social Services and Education team, specifically supporting Children’s Social Care legal functions. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with legal administrative experience who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is looking to develop their career within a legal setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive administrative support, including opening and managing case files, maintaining case management systems, and organising diaries.
- Prepare legal bundles for court (including Case Lines) and Special Educational Needs Tribunals.
- Draft routine legal documents and correspondence using standard templates and precedents.
- Redact and proofread legal documents using appropriate software tools.
- Handle incoming and outgoing communications, including liaising with courts, counsel, and external organisations.
- Provide regular updates to clients on case progress via telephone and written communication.
- Arrange meetings, hearings, and appointments, including booking accommodations where required.
- Support lawyers in managing caseloads and ensuring deadlines are met.
- Maintain accurate records, filing systems, and ensure proper document management.
- Use a range of IT systems including case management software, databases, and Microsoft Office tools.
Qualifications & Knowledge
- Educated to Level 3 (or equivalent) or relevant experience.
- Knowledge of case management systems and filing processes.
Experience
- Previous experience in legal or administrative support roles.
- Ideally, knowledge of Children Act proceedings (private/public law).
Skills & Abilities
- Strong organisational skills with high attention to detail.
- Ability to manage workload effectively and meet tight deadlines.
- Confident communicator with strong written and verbal skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and case management systems.
- Strong client care and customer service skills.
- Willingness to learn new areas of law and adapt to new technologies.
