THE ROLE
We are seeking an experienced Design Manager to support a major construction contractor on projects across the Southwest. The successful candidate will be based from the Southampton office, with Exeter also potentially available. Experience working on public-sector construction projects is highly desirable, particularly within education, healthcare or MoJ.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage and coordinate the design process from early stages through to construction.
- Coordinate design information between consultants, contractors and project teams.
- Review designs to ensure they meet project requirements, programme and quality standards.
- Identify and manage design risks, changes and technical issues.
- Work closely with project, commercial and site teams to support project delivery.
- Monitor design progress and ensure information is available when required on site.
- Support design reviews, technical meetings and stakeholder coordination.
- Maintain and manage design documentation and relevant project information.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Proven experience as a Design Manager within the construction industry.
- Strong understanding of design management and design coordination.
- Experience managing design consultants and multidisciplinary design teams.
- Good understanding of construction design processes and documentation.
- Experience working closely with project and site teams.
- Ability to work from the Southampton/Chandler's Ford office.
DESIRABLE SKILLS
- Previous experience working on public‑sector construction projects.
- Experience within education/schools, healthcare or MoJ projects.
- Knowledge of SCF (Southern Construction Framework), Procure or P23 frameworks.
- Previous experience working for a Tier 1/main contractor.
