The Faculty of Social and Historical Sciences is recognised globally for both its teaching and research excellence. Our interests span the globe as we seek to understand the social, political, economic, cultural and environmental processes that have shaped the world over time.

This role will cover an initial period of website work, then (from August until the end of the contract) provide paternity leave cover. The post holder will join the Faculty Marketing and Communications Team to support upgrades to the digital estate and communications and events activities. This will include rebuilding webpages, updating links, and ensuring best practice across Faculty and departmental sites.

They will be familiar with Drupal (versions 7-10) or other website CMS systems, along with SiteImprove and Google Analytics. They will work closely with the Head of Marketing and Communications and the Senior Communications and Events Manager, as well as liaise with departmental Web Content Managers and other stakeholders of the Faculty web estate.

From August, the post holder will also support the Communications and Events team by producing communications and delivering events for both the internal staff and student community and external audiences. The post-holder will liaise extensively with stakeholders from across departments, faculty and VP External Engagement (VPEE) to create and disseminate key messages ensuring all strategies, policies and processes are in line with Client-wide practices.

  • Website maintenance and management using Drupal CMS and SiteImprove
  • Quality control across Faculty and departmental websites
  • Ensuring all activities are GDPR, CMA and Public Sector Accessibility Regulation compliant
  • Supporting other Faculty activities where website development or technical support are involved
  • Prepare and distribute internal and external communications, including the planning of content, proofreading, layout and reporting on analytics
  • To provide logistical support for events delivered both in person and online

Person Spec:

  • Experience of working for a communications or digital team
  • Experience of using web content management systems, ideally Drupal 7-10
  • Experience of organising or supporting the delivery of events in a professional or voluntary capacity
  • A demonstrable track record of supporting effective communications, especially in the digital or social sphere
  • Experience of using web analytics and qualitative feedback to enhance and develop communication or website plans
  • All-round computer literacy and familiarity with website maintenance
  • Strong communications skills and knowledge/experience of implementing GDPR, CMA and Accessibility compliancy guidelines
