IT Infrastructure Laboratory Technician Location: Cheltenham Work Pattern: Full Time On SIte Job Summary We are seeking a hands-on IT Infrastructure Laboratory Technician to manage, maintain, and support our physical and virtual testing environments. In this role, you will be responsible for the hardware lifecycle, network provisioning, and daily troubleshooting of lab infrastructure used by our engineering and development teams. The ideal candidate enjoys working with physical hardware, possesses strong networking fundamentals, and maintains an exceptionally organised environment. Key Responsibilities Hardware & Asset Management: Install, rack, stack, and cable servers, switches, and storage arrays. Track physical inventory, spare parts, and component replacements using asset management software. Environment Provisioning: Configure and deploy operating systems, hypervisors, and baseline software images. Set up isolated test networks, VLANs, and testbeds based on engineering requests. Maintenance & Troubleshooting: Perform hardware diagnostics and replace faulty components (RAM, CPUs, drives, power supplies). Keep server BIOS and network switch firmware up to date. Lab Operations: Monitor lab environmental controls, including room temperature, power distribution, and cable neatness. Maintain strict data-wiping and decommissioning protocols for retired equipment. Helpdesk Support: Act as the primary point of contact for lab users, resolving daily access, connectivity, or hardware allocation tickets. Required Skills & Qualifications Hardware Proficiency: Deep understanding of server architecture, storage systems, and components. Networking Fundamentals: Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, subnets, VLAN configuration, and structured cabling practices. System Administration: Experience installing and configuring Windows Server, Linux (RHEL/Ubuntu), and virtualisation platforms (VMware, KVM, or Hyper-V). Automation Basics: Familiarity with basic scripting (Bash, PowerShell, or Python) for task automation is a plus.
