As a trusted partner to the UK Ministry of Defence, our client is seeking a skilled Goods Inwards Inspector to join their Bolton site. This role is critical to ensuring all incoming materials meet purchase order, contractual and quality requirements. You will play a key part in safeguarding compliance, supporting manufacturing schedules, and maintaining the highest standards across a regulated, safety-critical environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure all goods received from suppliers fully meet purchase order, contractual, and quality requirements
  • Verify, inspect, and formally accept procured products in line with approved standards and conditions
  • Read and interpret engineering and assembly drawings, including dimensional tolerances and machined features
  • Inspect components for surface finish, damage, or paint defects, completing first off inspections where required
  • Produce, maintain, and update accurate inspection and quality documentation
  • Complete and validate all delivery paperwork, ensuring full traceability and compliance
  • Meet agreed inspection turnaround times to support manufacturing schedules
  • Identify, segregate, and control non-conforming material, raising and maintaining defect / NCR reports
  • Maintain product verification and approval through regular audits, including PCB inspection where applicable
  • Ensure full compliance with manufacturing, quality, and safety procedures, while maintaining a safe, organised work environment

What do you need?

  • A completed and approved Level 3 apprenticeship, such as a Modern Apprenticeship or a recognised Apprenticeship Framework
  • A vocational qualification (for example G or H Units) supported by Further Education, including City & Guilds Parts 1, 2 and 3
  • This should be supported by either: Vocational TR23 units with Further Education, or An ONC, or City & Guilds Parts 1, 2 and 3
  • Alternatively, candidates may hold a Level 3 NVQ supported by Further Education, such as a BTEC, alongside an ONC or HNC
  • In summary, candidates must hold a Level 3 apprenticeship, plus one of the following: NVQ Level 3, or BTEC, and an ONC or HNC
  • Modern Apprenticeships combined with ONC or HNC qualifications are also acceptable
  • Manual handling; ESD training. SAP literate is desirable.
  • Must have inspection experience in a goods-in manufacturing environment (highly essential).
  • For example: Receiving goods in accordance with purchase orders, delivery notes, and contracts
  • Carrying out initial quality and quantity checks on incoming materials
  • Identifying and escalating non-conforming, damaged, or incorrect goods
  • Understanding inspection requirements for safety-critical components
  • Stores experience is highly required (mechanical inspector irrelevant)
