Payrate: £15.38 per hour via PAYE / £19.43 per hour via Umbrella

Working Pattern: Monday–Friday Hours: 37 hrs per week

Purpose of the job

Provides a range of business support functions to support internal and external customers. This may require service-specific skills and knowledge.

Key job outcomes/accountabilities

  • Provide a range of business support services for one or more service areas, taking ownership and responsibility.
  • Make real time service decisions in response to operational issues in line with local procedures and established guidance.
  • Demonstrate the council’s values: Dedicated, Respect, Ownership, Curious, Collaborative.
  • Carry out specific administrative tasks requiring a discrete skill or in-depth knowledge base.
  • Respond to enquiries from internal and external customers and stakeholders including escalated issues, resolving at the point of contact where possible.
  • To carry out, monitor and reconcile financial transactions.
  • Prepare and provide documentation and information.
  • Check service delivery and processes are in line with local guidance and legislation.
  • To own and drive forward process improvements.
  • To communicate effectively with colleagues, senior management, internal customers and external agencies.
  • May involve direct contact with citizens of Bristol including escalated issues with difficult customers.
  • To deal with escalated issues within the business support area.
  • To take responsibility for own day to day operational issues.
  • To work within legislative and procedural guidelines.
  • This is an office-based role that may require travel to different sites.
  • To manage own performance and to maintain a high standard in the following competency areas as outlined in ‘My Performance’: Teamwork, Customer Service, Delivery, Change, Interpersonal Skills, Planning and Organising, Problem Solving and Decision Making, ICT Skills, Administrative, Project Management, Analytical.

General Accountabilities

  • So far as is reasonably practicable, the post holder must ensure that safe working practices are adopted by employees and in premises/work areas for which the post holder is responsible to maintain a safe working environment for employees and service users.   • Work in compliance with the Codes of Conduct, Regulations and policies of the City Council.
  • To model and promote good equalities practice and value diversity across the service.
  • Ensure that output and quality of work is of a high standard and complies with current legislation / standards.
  • Ensure that all mandatory training is undertaken as required e.g. – Client's Induction, Health and Safety, Equalities, Safeguarding Children and Safeguarding Adults.

Note:

  • The Safeguarding Business Support Team requires a Business Support Officer to join us in a role supporting the Child Protection Conference Service.
  • The BSO will need to have previous minute taking experience as well as good working knowledge of Microsoft 365 applications, a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • The BSO will be required to attend conferences in person at various clients offices around the city (so travel is required via car, bike, bus, e-scooter etc). The role will involve taking minutes at these multi-agency conferences, typing up notes into the required format, updating a database and distributing letters/ reports to professionals and family members.
  • Please note due to the sensitivity of the work area confidentiality is essential and some conferences may contain distressing content.
