To install, connect, repair and maintain LV and HV electrical plant, cabling and control systems. The principal role of an apprentice Substation Fitter is to train to install, commission and distribute cables and plant. All training will be provided including accredited apprentice Substation Fitter training with City and Guilds. Willingness to learn new skills, attention to detail and a conscientious approach are essential to this role. Key Responsibilities
- To train to carry out installation and maintenance of cables, control systems, switchgear and transformers in a variety of scenarios ensuring work is carried out to a very high standard of reliability and safety.
- Carry out relevant training to ensure on-site safety is maintained at all times and will be involved in carrying out Risk Assessments.
- To train to carry out fault finding and to correct defects on electrical plant and equipment to ensure reliable operation.
- Train to assist in the planning of jobs by carrying out site visits, organising resources and liaising with customers.
- To train to carry out installation of new plant and modifications to existing plant to improve performance.
- Train to accept formal safety documents and lead working parties for specific tasks, ensuring safe working practices are adhered to.
- Train to carry out LV Operations such as the removal and replacement of LV Distribution fuses and links for maintenance purposes or to energise and de-energise cables.
- Train to be aware of and comply with local legislation, specifically related to Health & Safety, Equal Opportunities and Data Protection.
- Once relevant training has been completed you may be required to take part in a formal standby rota.
- Such other duties as may be allocated and interchange of duties as required.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- A good standard of education and will serve a recognised Apprenticeship at City & Guilds level 2 or 3 which will include Distance Learning.
- Must demonstrate a very high attention to detail as work is safety critical.
- Must be willing to travel as some of the training is carried out in the UK, however all travel and accommodation costs will be covered as part of the apprenticeship training.
- Will undertake training on minor plant items and safety training as required for the role.
- Will develop as part of their training a strong knowledge of the functional structure of Guernsey Electricity, its mission, objectives, strategies, and critical success factors.
