An exciting opportunity has arisen at Gudge Heath Lane Surgery for an accomplished, highly motivated Practice Nurse to join our friendly and forward-thinking clinical team. The ideal candidate will be registered with the NMC and ideally have experience working within Primary Care.

About us: We are a supportive and successful training practice. We work closely with our PCN who provide a paramedic-led home visiting service for our frail and housebound patients, meaning there are minimal home visits for our GPs, a first contact physio service, social prescribing team, and link with mental health and wellbeing coaches. We offer good work-life balance, a supportive team around you, located in a wonderful place to live and work. There is opportunity for a lunchtime walk and local to cafes and shops. We pride ourselves in the development and well-being of staff. We offer an Employment Assistant Programme which is open to immediate family members, Blue Light Card, NHS Discounts and NHS pension scheme.

Schedule:

  • Monday 8.30am-5.30pm (with 30min unpaid break - 8.5hrs) or 8.30am-1pm (4.5hrs)
  • Tuesday 8.30am-1pm (4.5hrs)
  • Wednesday 8.30am-5.30pm (with 30min unpaid break - 8.5hrs)
  • Thursday 8.30am-1pm (4.5hrs)
  • Friday off

Main duties of the job:

  • Cytology
  • Family Planning / Contraception
  • Wound / ulcer care / compression
  • Doppler
  • Removal of Sutures
  • ECGs
  • Adult / Childhood immunisations
  • Chaperoning and assisting patients where appropriate who are being examined by another clinician
  • Assisting GPs with minor surgery and coil fittings
  • Requesting pathology tests, for example urine culture, swabs
  • Following agreed clinical protocols
  • Clean equipment as necessary as per IPC guidelines
  • Attend and participate in any practice meetings when required
  • Any other delegated duties appropriate to the post
  • Chronic Disease Management (Asthma/COPD/Diabetes/CHD) - (desirable skill)
  • Travel vaccinations (desirable skill)

The post-holder will assist in promoting and maintaining their own and others health, safety and security as defined in the Partnership Health & Safety Policy, to include:

  • Using personal security systems within the workplace according to the Partnership guidelines
  • Identifying the risks involved in work activities and undertaking such activities in a way that manages those risks
  • Making effective use of training to update knowledge and skills
  • Using appropriate infection control procedures, maintaining work areas in a tidy and safe way and free from hazards

  • Taking responsibility for own development, learning and performance and demonstrating skills and activities to others who are undertaking similar work

The post-holder will strive to maintain quality within the Partnership, and will:

  • Assess own performance and take accountability for own actions, either directly or under supervision
  • Contribute to the effectiveness of the team by reflecting on own activities
  • Work effectively with individuals in other agencies to meet patients needs
  • Effectively manage own time, workload and resources

Communication:

The post-holder should recognize the importance of effective communication within the team and will strive to:

  • Communicate effectively with other team members
  • Communicate effectively with patients and carers
  • Recognise peoples needs for alternative methods of communication and respond accordingly
  • Skilled use in computer software (EMIS Web / Docman10 / ICE/AccuRx)

Qualifications:

  • Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (applicants must have current UK professional NMC registration)
  • Qualification in primary care nursing
  • Clinical skills - cervical cytology, travel immunisations, chronic disease management

Experience:

  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and think logically
  • Ability to work in a team and understand other member's needs
  • Previous experience working in General Practice
