Social Science Cover Supervisor

GSL Education is looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Social Science Cover Supervisor to join a comprehensive girls’ school and sixth form in Tower Hamlets. This is an exciting opportunity for a confident Social Science Cover Supervisor who enjoys working with young people and can create a calm, positive and focused classroom environment.

As a Social Science Cover Supervisor, you will play an important role in supporting students’ learning by supervising classes in the absence of their usual teachers. You will deliver pre-set work, maintain high standards of behaviour and ensure students remain engaged and focused throughout each lesson.

Responsibilities

• Work as a Social Science Cover Supervisor, supervising lessons across different year groups.
• Deliver pre-prepared lesson materials and ensure students complete the work set.
• Maintain a positive, calm and well-managed classroom environment.
• Support students with their learning and encourage active participation.
• Manage classroom behaviour in line with the school’s behaviour policies.
• Monitor students’ progress and provide feedback where appropriate.
• Follow school procedures relating to safeguarding, attendance and student welfare.
• Liaise with teaching staff and other members of the school team when required.

Requirements

• Previous experience working as a Social Science Cover Supervisor or in a similar school-based role.
• Experience working with secondary-age students is essential.
• A good understanding of Social Science subjects such as Sociology, Psychology or related areas is desirable.
• Strong classroom management and communication skills.
• The ability to build positive relationships with students and staff.
• A reliable, organised and professional approach to work.
• QTS is desirable, but not essential.
• A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
• The ability to work Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
